Da Reds thread

Reds win and its always great to get that Opening Day win! Didn't get to watch because of work but the box looks good for Castillo (5.2, 2 hits, 1 ER, 8 SO/3BB). The new guys really showed out too: Duke picks up the W, Iglesias goes 2/3 with 1 run and a RBI double, and Dietrich hits a pinch hit 3 run homer that won us the game.

Local boy pulls it out - Dietrich with the 3 run homer as a pinch hitter. What a great pick up for a utility guy.

Undefeated. lol

Hernandez gave me a heart attack. Took a 4 pitch walk to load the bases and like a 13 pitch at bat to get the final out of the game.

lol. That was a real battle. I thought Bell did a nice job with the pitching changes and it sure was good to see Castillo looking sharp.

Gray's done: 2.2 IP, 5 hits, 3 R/2 ER, 4 BB, a HBP, and an error on 71 pitches. To top it off he allowed the Pirates pitcher to knock in a run and than walked him bring in another.

Reds just announced that Hunter Greene will have Tommy John surgery...

Which he needed last year and they thought they could rehab him to avoid it. I have never been sold on the org's medical minds at all. Too many big time mistakes. So the #1 pick is lost to the bigs for at least 2-3 seasons. I just do not see drafting a pitching prospect as your #1 pick - ever. Classic mistake. They took Lorenzen, Stephenson, and Travieso in the first round of recent drafts and look how mediocre they've been. The most successful were Bailey and Leach - not exactly anything to brag about there. Draft 3rd round down and develop pitchers that have upside that may be traded as prospects for proven pitching if there is no clear path to the bigs for them. Use the high draft picks for position players and accelerate their paths to the bigs. You control them at lower cost longer while they are striving to become stars. I would never sign a Votto type contract ever for anybody. Save the money to acquire pitching. The Cards org has it figured out the best IMO and even they struggle to remain competitive when they sink too much cash into a couple of players. Injuries or off seasons happen and you are screwed.

The Bats and Lookouts have announced their opening day rosters:

Pitching good, hitting sucks. So how did that Schebler beat out Senzel thing work out? Sent Senzel down to only lose him for two weeks with a twisted ankle on a slide. Kept Schebler to only have him start the season 0-17. Impressive decision making by the FO.

I don't think it was ever a real battle. The team was always going to send him down early to avoid the service time IMO. Offense sucks but I think Castillo is going to be our ace in the future.

Seriously the bats need to come alive. Aside of that 5-0 game against the Pirates the starting pitching has been good enough to win and really we should be 5-1. Right now Mahle is having a pretty good game and its 0-0.

Mahle's night is done: 6 IP, 5 hits, and 5 SOs/no walks on 78 pitches. I might have let him go another inning but Bell pulled him.

Another 2-0 loss. I'm not ready to fire Bell but I really don't know why he pinch hit Kyle Farmer for Winker with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

After tonight's 2-0 loss the team is 34 for 217 combined. Sonny Gray really rebounded nicely from that disastrous first start.

Of course Kemp is the one who ends the hitting run. Honestly I'd rather have tried to trade him but Bell seems set on playing him.
