Da Reds thread

They are rebuilding the farm they decimated making dumb moves other than the Latos deal hopefully. That tells me they are going with what they got. You are right, champy. Middle of the pack may be generous. The Cubs are starting to assemble some talent that can hit on that club. It's a near riot on the team boards and in the media.

Somebody posted this on one tonight - 21 losses this season when the club scored one run or less. If that is correct, how can a GM or manager possibly justify having 13 pitchers on the active roster for months? Especially with Votto and BP out long term. They have lost their frickin' minds.

Had Mes hitting 6th behind Luddy and Bruce tonight. You cannot make this stuff up. Had the team leading RBI producer per number of ABs behind two deadweights that are doing zippo. Bob must be getting senile. I would blow this thing up and be the biggest seller in MLB.

one thing i have noticed all the non red vol fans that have vanished. pretty classless individuals to not come back and at least admit they were wrong. just goes to show you all vols are not cool.

Wrong about what? It's obvious they need a healthy Votto... Wrong for saying a former MVP is needed?

joey isn't the same joey. won't matter if he comes back or not. you were saying the reds were going to be just fine. injuries hurt, but there was little doubt the reds would go into a tail spin. BP hurt worse than joey going down, and it Doesn't help that we have the worst manager in the MLB. the reds need to clean house starting with jock and work its way down, but i fear the damage is done for a long time though.

So wait Votto gets hurt and you are struggling on offense?

Wow, who would have thought...

we were struggling well before he went down. BP going down really is what sent us into a tail spin. votto was batting like 250 with 6 dingers you guys make him sound like he is god or miggy or something.

Apparently .308 OBP>>>.392 OBP.

Votto's BABIP was extremely low for him while his LD% and FB% is the same. He'll turn it around once he gets healthy.

Just drop in to leave a troll line?

Wrong - again. You must have missed the club going 8-3 leading up to the ASG and being only 1.5 back of the Brewers. Votto had been gone for weeks.

OBP means next to nothing now. This losing streak is about hitting, low RISP production, and very bad defense due to injured guys being out. When the clean up hitter is pushing the Mendoza line and striking out like Dave Kingman your club is not going to win.

We all hope Votto gets healthy again because nobody will be dumb enough to take him now unless the club eats a lot of that future payroll. But we also have eyes. He will not get healthy this season. There are no guarantees he will ever return to his previous production, in fact, the odds are against it. He has a very serious issue with his leg that has gone on for two years now. The longer he cannot produce, the less likely it becomes he ever will.

See previous post. He will not be healthy this season. Research his injury. It is not responding well to non-surgical therapy and is not subject to surgical repair at this point. It's not a number or a stat so it might be harder to understand.

Maybe referencing a basketball player will help. Think Maymon before surgery and after surgery. Two years. Was he as good physically two years later? Not even close. Something happened to Votto with that surgery and it has affected his leg in other ways.

I stopped reading after OBP means next to nothing.

I was talking in the future, not just this year. He still can hit.

I am confused. How can Votto be gone for weeks leading up to the ASG when is last game was July 5th and the break started on July 14th? Unless you are talking about him missing in May.

don't know but he hasn't hit all year so it really doesn't matter if he is in there or not.

Because they sat Votto often for a couple weeks before putting him on the most recent DL IIRC. He kept trying and limping so they would sit for some games, then try it again, then sit until they DL'd him again.

Earliest projection back is 4 weeks per club bloggers.

Walt still wants to be a buyer. Negotiations ongoing today with the Rangers for Alex Rios. Mariners the primary competition. Yanks and Jays were in it early and appear to be out now. Walt wants a player he can control multi year. Rios contract has team control through 2015. .300 hitter with some pop still in his bat. 33 years old. Would make a good piece now and transition to the future in LF, which may be Winkler.

The good news is this is the final year of WJ's contract. The bad news is Bob makes really bad decisions on personnel at times. Will see.

Love this next stat. For those that don't understand what we have been dealing with as fans as well the players. Price reports direct to Jock. Jock apparently does nothing to stop - may even support the following:

Tonight's starting line-up is the 82nd different one this season. That's right - in 105 games the starting line up has changed 82 times exclusive of the pitcher's spot in the order. Neither Price or Jock have a clue.

Some stats and self appointed experts will say Madden does it that often with TB. One answer to that - DH. More options. Others will say injuries caused it. Only BP and JV have been out significant time. Mes was on the 15 day DL early. I could maybe understand 30 or so. 82.

And to those that say this coaching staff is OK - the Reds lead MLB in guys getting thrown out on a play at home. It just happened for the 22nd time. Slow runner trying to score on short bloop to center from second and was thrown out by 25 feet or so. Third base coach waved him in again. Which is what he has done all season. Or stopped them from going when they should have run. And Bruce and Cozart regressing at the plate. Etc., etc.

Pathetic.
