Da Reds thread

Saberista viewpoint. Any manager that wants an OBP guy hitting third has rocks for brains or has no OBP guys at the top of the order. Choo is a very good OBP guy - so that doesn't wash. Agree though that the 2 hole decisions by Dusty has somewhat limited JV's ability to knock in runs. But JV's power numbers are down this season - significant reductions in doubles/HR's.

Which brings it all back once again to Dusty.

His stance matters none. His pitch recognition is flat out awful.

His lead left foot was away from his back foot more and flatter to the ground last night as well as over the last couple of weeks, instead of up on the toes and back. Even Dusty has talked about his stance causing him to be off balance and lunge into the ball, which is one of the reasons he was reluctant to hand him the job at third before the season. You cannot hold back and check a swing if it is all moving downhill so to speak. He has been working on the balance and leveling his swing all season and it looks like it is beginning to pay off.

Last night he did a better job of laying off the bad pitches. I agree that a big part of his issues has been pitch recognition like you stated.

Not that big of a surprise actually. If this team has a decent night offensively, they come back asleep for a night or two. Tonight is one of those nights. Of course last night was really just a couple of guys having really good nights. But Dusty had to be Dusty and overuse Chappy when Parra and Hoover had closed the door until the 9th. He can't leave well enough alone and just let a guy that is pitching well finish it out.

They are just a 3-4 runs average per game type team this season.

Big game tonight after the good W yesterday. Corbin vs. Cingrani. Corbin with his 2.48 era has been tough. Hopefully they bring their A game tonight.

Starting to come together some. Hope the hitting picks it up a notch through the playoffs.

We've been beating bad teams. As expected.

What a dumb game tonight. Reds score 8 before the D-backs get going and score the next 7. Then in the 8th Frazier decides at the last second to protect the plate and golfs a 2-out single to knock in a run. Joey works his usual walk and BP gets the infield hit to knock in another run for a 10-7 lead. All of this with Chappy pitching more than one inning - which Dusty has done rarely in a close game in my memory. But who can blame him with how the pen has butchered it yesterday and today? The same pen that has saved their tails so many times for the past month. So Chappy does the job fortunately.

What a strange, strange season this has been.

Well broxton got hurt again. What a waste of money this team has made in re-signing he and ludwick.

Dominant performance by Latos and a 2-1 Win to take 3 of 4 from Arizona. We now have a 7 game lead on them in the WC and are now 2 games out of first behind the Pirates.

Actually Champy and I both said they were betting the farm on Luddy by staying out of the FA market and that was a big "if". The pitching has saved them during the stretch you mentioned that included winning 5 of 7 from 2 bad teams. But give credit to them for the 3 of 4 against the D-backs no matter how ugly they had to win them.

However, the pen is starting to show signs of wear and tear at a time when only Mat and sometimes, Homer or Bronson, can go deep into a game. Hopefully, the big money star hitters can get their acts together with solid help from everybody else. This is a season where there is no dominant team in MLB.

Sinking all that cash into Tubs was just plain dumb. If they wanted to do that there should have been physical condition stipulations in that contract. Luddy's injury was just a freak deal.
