Da Reds thread

i think they have to make acouple now. phillips is the only consistant bat in the lineup. season is probably shot.

Pretty soft part of the schedule is coming up. If Jock can pull the trigger on a good trade (ahem, Quentin) then there is a reasonable chance the Reds can come out of this reasonably unscathed. Hell, he missed a couple weeks in 2010 when they made the playoffs, so this isn't uncharted territory. That, and the Pirates team that is sitting a game back right now is nowhere near as good as the Cardinals team that the Reds beat out that year.

I found this interesting since Rolen is marking his 2,000th game. I wondered where he ranked all time in games played. He is #230 all time. That led me to look at where Chipper ranked and he is 66th all time. But with that said what caught me off guard was when I looked at Chipper's stats-

I found it incredibly interesting that he had not laid down a sac bunt since 1998 and has only sac bunted 3 times in 19 seasons. Is it just me or is that just a baffling anomaly for a guy with over 8,800 plate appearances. What is also interesting to me is Rolen has only one sac bunt in his entire career.

I am not a stat guru, but I found it interesting that two guys who have had so many at bats have only laid down 4 sac bunts between the two of them in around 16,000 plate appearances.

Good hitters aren't asked to bunt very often. Votto is approaching 3000 plate appearances and has never laid down a sacrifice bunt.

10 in a row!

got a horrible feeling bro that if the reds don't make a move today, which i don't think they will. they won't even win the central. they are beating up on the worst teams in baseball, but have pitt and mets coming up and just don't see them winning those series. was down at GABP to watch them play the brewers last sunday and have to say there hitting is horrible against good pitching.

Beating up on bad teams is what good teams do.

true, but with the giants getting pence and dodgers buying everybody up. the reds are looking like the 4rth or 5th best team in the national league. you just don't stand pat while the rest of the teams make upgrades.

From what I understand it wasn't because they weren't trying.

I don't think they're the 4th or 5th best team in the NL either. They're 14-3 since the break, and that included a sweep over St. Louis. They have the 2nd best record in MLB, their pitching is in the top 5, and Votto isn't even in the lineup. Stop being negative, they're a good team and have the potential to win the World Series. Not to mention, the day isn't over.

now never said they were a bad team. the reds are a good team that when they get votto back should be a huge boost. i just don't see the reds going very far with cozart and stubbs at the top of the line up. stubbs has been hitting better of late, but i'm afraid it is because of the pressure being put on him from possible trades. i figure he will relax after the deadline and we will see the same ole stubbs that k's 200 plus times a year. they really needed another bat to put them over the top.

right now i would say the nats, dodgers, are better than the reds with the reds being in the same category as the giants and pirates. all good teams. just the dodgers giants and pirates all got better while the reds didn't do anything. that is what i just don't understand. jock could have traded ondrusick for victorino and didn't, just don't get it.

joseph for sure and another minor league pitcher. sounded like our 5 and 7 prospects in the organization. just don't understand. thats what they are saying on 700

Sulbaran's ceiling is a back of the rotation starter or middle relief. Joseph is pretty good, and I wish we had kept him, but you gotta give stuff up to shore up the pen.
