Cool. You're the 898,982,293,198th person to make that claim, and yet data still supports the idea that star gazing is a better tool of gauging talent than hoping to find coals to turn into diamonds.

And yet in the last NFL draft 24 of the top 50 prospects were 3 stars or worse. Star gazing is fine but ultimately it means nothing.

Well, there are only 7 billion people on this planet. So they would each have to make that claim around 128 times per person. But only around 330 million live in America where this sport is actually played.

Also- what 'data' are you referring to?

Ohhh star-gazers...:)

Stars are a good indication of how soon a player will be able to contribute. A 4 or 5 star may contribute early but doesn't mean that by draft time, 2 and 3 star players are excellent players. And of course there are exceptions both ways

You're throwing Rocky Reid in there? Dude is a 3 star prospect, 58th best RB in the country. He might end up being a Tauren Poole type, but he's not stepping in here day 1 and running with the big boys. Likely a Tom Smith type.

Have you seen the kid run. He breaks tackles all day and has the speed to take it to the house.

Go over to the recruiting forum and check out his highlights

He'll get a bump in the ranking before the end of the season. He will probably red shirt but the kid is no slouch.

Tom Smith's highlight videos were great too. As were Alden Hill's.

I'm not knocking the kid. I just said there is no way he comes in day 1 and is part of the rotation. He'll be behind Justus Pickett.

Rocky Reid already has nfl size for a RB, I bet we do redshirt just to spread our depth out but I bet he will be a starter before he is finished

Could be totally wrong here, but I personally think Kamara will be the 2 deep back. Dude just looks like a beast on film.

Serious question that troubles me to ask. But, if you are Alvin Kamara and watch this OL, do you stay committed or flip to a place where the OL can actually open a hole for a running back?

I expect the OL to improve next year, but it is most likely though sledding there for another year or two unless we land some new talent.

He's an EE and his girlfriend goes to UT.

Sorry, but you are wrong.

Have you considered the sheer numbers of 3* players as compared to 4* players that came available for that draft? Go find out and then tell us how impressive 24/50 really is.

His point is that you're saying that because he's not a 5 star or even a 4 star (which will probably change) that he won't come in and contribute right away. While I'm not saying he's going to have a Hurd impact, looking at stars to see whether or not they will have an impact is completely ridiculous.

Higher stars give a better chance of contributing early, but a lack of a fifth star does not indicate that they will not have an early impact.

The Tennessee official depth chart is not written in stone. It's just something to satisfy the press.

You're high! I need to hit the sack so I'll back off on how high you are.

Finally, I feel like I learned something in this thread. Good work.

I am looking forward to seeing what Scott can do on Saturday night against Ole Miss and their defense.

Of course the pool of 3* and under is a lot more than 4 or 5 * talent. That being said, if you were a 3* talent with only so-so offers in college and make it in the first couple of rounds of the draft then that is still pretty damn good. My original point was just because Rivals or ESPN hasn't determined that a player is up to their caliber doesn't mean that he can't come in and make a difference on day 1. And BTW, from 2002 thru 2010 there were 262 5* recruits. How many were drafted? 116 or 44%. Meaning that more than half failed to live up to their ranking. Of course injuries, trouble or just quitting football completely got some of them but it just shows that stars ultimately mean nothing just like I originally said.

In my mind, there are two types of mindsets with RB's.

The ones that believe that they do it all of themselves

and

The ones that actually praise and encourage OL to open holes for them. AKA Team work.

My guess, is that he's the first.

I think we are going to utilize Scott as RB/WR. I guess the best player I can think of would be like Sproles?

I could be wrong, but it seems like we've been only playing Hurd or Lane prior to the Mocs game. There was no third RB.

What's interesting is.. At least from the video, Scott seemed to miss a bunch of blocks. So my guess is that he hasn't been groomed to block but they wanted to get experience with blocking.

I will almost bet 100 bucks we see a BUNCH of pitches, options, draws, and screens to Scott.

I wouldn't mind utilizing Scott as a Darren Sproles type player. That would work very well in our system.

I don't understand all of the arguing over a player that hasn't even stepped on campus yet.
