I was thinking along the lines of playing up to the level of competition and down to the level of competition. Watching this Georgia/Auburn game now, I don’t know if Georgia was really as good as advertised.Cannot argue there. However, this season, this team just needs to find a way to keep winning. They are what they are.
Okay, but if they were a bit better and a closer score, we probably don’t go prevent and preserve with 8:30 to go with a 17 point lead.True OP. However, I think we hold just a smidge of a talent edge. If their WR’s were just a little bit better, this game may be different right now.
What gets me is CJH runs the score up on all these weak and/or small school teams but, games against SEC schools and he dials back? If he kept his foot on the gas would we score 70 or, would we be losing those SEC games, like this one?Okay, but if they were a bit better and a closer score, we probably don’t go prevent and preserve with 8:30 to go with a 17 point lead.
That’s the only reason it was close at the end. I don’t like the approach and think we were playing well enough to attempt another score, but the calculation worked this time. I‘ll take a 3 point win in every remaining game, including NMST.
Shaun, depth works like this. You want more and you wnat quality. That way when the other team is tired, your depth results in your players not being as tired and the subs being more productive. Yes some of it was the Arkansas offensive line being tired. That's 100% how winning depth works in games like these. How much was it a tired Arkansas oline or a halftime adjustment from Banks? The pass rush was amazing. Joseph's will make a lot of money one day. That kid is an absolute beast. Also, Green is just a fun kid to watch. So elusive. Before the season, I dreaded him and Lagway the most.
Stop the run give up the pass. Stop the pass give up the run. Our safties ain’t good enough to do bothHow much was it a tired Arkansas oline or a halftime adjustment from Banks? It drives me crazy too. He gets timid in the 4th and I have no idea why. What gets me is CJH runs the score up on all these weak and/or small school teams but, games against SEC schools and he dials back? It's not the d line. The d line is great. It's the linebackers and the scheme we are playing to try and prop up the back of the defense. We have got to get better, bigger, and stronger on the D-Line. Thats the long and the short of it! I am SICK of seeing us get gashed for these huge chunk plays! We need to get these guys on a more rigorous weight program and get bigger and fortify the line better. And if we cant do it with who we have, we need to recruit, hit the portal, or do whatever we have to do to plug that middle up and better set the edge!

Fair enough. I picked Chavis because each year, with fantastic offenses we lost games by being to scared on defense.Oh, I'm far older than 3rd and Chavis. But Sunseri was more recent and much worse. At the end of the game we let them rip down the field playing zone and they never saw a 3rd down to go 3rd and Chavis.
Unfortunately, exactly, this reminds me so much of two coaches we had who, combined had 36 years here and both did the exact same thing at the end of their careers. It's frustrating. It's like he doesn't understand that 7 more points is worth more than another minute off the clock with no points. We don't even run anything outside, where we were killing them all night. Just straight up the guards back for 2 or 3 yards. Then we slow down and run clock and the greatest strength of the offense is taken away by our own coach.
If we'd wanted to pass, it was open all night. But we only threw the ball 25 times. Going into a shell up by only 10 was not a good choice. I don't know if anyone asked him post game, why he did it or not.
This is an astute post ... and there are some positives to take away from this game (aside from the victory), but overall, I think we looked like crap today. We barely beat a team at home, that lost 56-13 on their own home field to Notre Dame a week ago, and just fired their head coach. No doubt about it. When you can rotate up to 12, you can beat the hell out of an offensive line.
