This is a pretty strange thread. I get that Cut wasn't most UT fans' first choice; but, uummm, he wasn't Hamilton's first choice, either. What that means is that UT's 3rd choice has now declined... now maybe it's me, but that doesn't sound very good; that would mean that UT is now down to guys who are even worse than Cutcliffe. Seems like hardly a reason to be celebrating. At this point, ANYBODY would be better than nobody... you can always make changes later.
When the coaches of Air Force and Duke turn down a job like UT, it's time to figure out what they know about the program that the rest of us don't. That'd be like Buttermaker turning down the New York Yankees manager job to stay with the Bad News Bears.
I don't buy this smokescreen conspiracy theory I've been reading about... that's kind of stupid. Why would the AD be stalling with smokescreens while his prized recruiting class is looking for the exits? No, that doesn't make a bit of sense; he'd be publicizing a great hire in every media outlet possible, to stop the recruiting hemorrhage. It's less than 3 weeks to NSD; and even the prospects who want to honor their commitments have to be getting nervous at this point. There is precious little time left for them and their folks to even develop a relationship with the new coach and his staff.
Most of the great choices have either already accepted new jobs or extended their existing contracts... a little late in the game to be too picky or make too many demands. You guys need to get somebody in the throne quick.
