ESPN.com - NCF - Schlabach: On (and off) the Mark

What worries me is "Meanwhile, former coach David Cutcliffe, who was inexplicably fired after winning 44 games and reaching five bowl games in five seasons at Ole Miss, has positioned himself to get any job opening he wants after this season. "

Do you guys think Cut would take off for another job after only one season?

Not sure... he loves Knoxville. Came back even without a job. We need to pay that man some big dollars and give him the assistant head coach title if he doesn't have it already. Our 2 coordinators and some of the best in the business - and we have to keep them. Let Fulmer do the recruiting and macro-management, and Cutcliffe and Chavis manage the details - and we'll stay in the top 10.

It may be bette for Fulmer's sake to give a big chunk of his money to coach Cutliffe. Keep Cut here, and he keeps his job.

On sportscenter, they were saying he was the frontrunner for some national coach of the year award. It wasn't the Bobby Dodd award, but I think that is only for head coaches, anyway.

I doubt Cut will ever leave Knoxville again. His health, kids and UT are big considerations. He will never be able to go anywhere else and be as revered as he is in Tennessee.

Was it the Broyles Award?

A HC position would likely be at least 3 times his current salary. That's a big incentive package.

I think he's going to stick around Knoxville for a while. He's had so much drama in the last few years with the Ole Miss firing, Notre Dame, his health, and he's working his way to making UT a National Title contender again. I think he's a lock here at least for a few more years. I honestly hope the only head coaching position he ever takes is ours.

Oh.. and don't you think Ole Miss is kicking themselves over our offensive success? Sucks to be you Rebs, hope you love that looney coach and second-hand UT quarterback.

In my dream world, Cut would come out and say he's never leaving, ever...and Meachem would follow him up by saying he's coming back next year.

I think he'll stay. The only reason he came back was his love for knoxville and the program. He'll stay until he retires.
