Lou Holtz just said "Tennessee is really missing the coach that when to Duke, David Cutcliff.....thats whay hes the Dr.

The reason he left is he knew what we had on the sidelines. Why would you leave a school like UT to go coach at Duke that was a bottom tier ACC team?? Doesn't make much sense but to look at Crompton as one of the biggest reasons and the fact that Fulmer is a micromanager.

If we had Cut back we'd be better, but I don't know if he would have pulled Crompton or not. If he had been our HC we'd certainly be better and running in the SEC this year!! Maybe if Fulmer gets fired he'd come back as our HC?

Unfortunately he appears to be heading for national Coach of the Year. There will surelybe a clamor for his return to UT to replace CPF..........we do not, I repeat do not, need to go backward in our next coaching hire which I feel will occur at the end of this seaso.

I was glad to see Cut go but after seeing not only Clawson's offense but our other top candidates as well(Clemson's and Illinois's OC's), he is looking better and better.

There was a comment made before the game about how Cutcliff had a better record than Fulmer. What a sad state our offense has become.

Yeah, I remember when we were all bagging Cutcliffe's "dink and dunk" offense. Boy do I miss that now.

I know it's apples and oranges, but Duke is 3-1 now.

I thought the same thing earlier today, and despite my previous statement I agree. We need new blood all the way around.

There is no coach in the game today that can turn Crompton into an efficient QB....he just cannot adjust to this game. Sadly the Vols are a QB away from being a very good team!

I feel for Clawson at this stage, and I am sure he is looking forward to getting a QB that he can teach!

maybe b/c making a program like duke into a great success can get you a spurrier@UF like job later...or maybe since at duke he could only win 3 games and it'd be considered phenominal....or even simply that he gets more money as a head coach than hamilton would ever agree to give him as an OC, fulmer contract or not

he left b/c he wanted to be a head coach, nothing he knew about the team being bad beforehand. That's like saying that patrick turner went to So Cal because he knew UT was going to be bad in 05....he didnt:hmm:

I was thinking the same thing today. He's 3-1 at Duke (losing to Northwestern only).

Why doesn't he come back and coach here (as head coach)? He's won wherever he's gone and would do the same at UT.

Even if he plays a crappy dink and dunk, I remember that he can open it up (in the 90s). I have mixed emotions--on one hand, I want a winner, on the other I want some fresh blood at UT.

If you want to look at somebody who can get the most out of his players, look at Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern. He's taking a team that's academically handicapped and winning. Imagine what he could do with UT's talent.

Cut left at the first job to come calling if I remember right. It also didn't take long to iron out the deal either. Seems like he was ready to leave. Why would you go to Duke and not see what else is out there first??
