Cutcliffe to Duke Thread(merged)

Duke is a beautiful campus but Durham itself is a dump.

Many areas of Durham (including downtown) are a dump, but there are some very nice areas as well, including near the Duke campus. There are also some very nice areas in Chapel Hill and in Raleigh.

So he's leaving UT because he isn't happy here? When was the last time we didn't lose multiple games?

Assuming here means the forum, I'm sure he'd be extremely disappointed if he hung out here. What Vols fan wouldn't be?

This may be the only place that has more negative energy than has the Dook football program.

So, why am I here? Sometimes you've just gotta laugh at it all.

Losing Cut two days in a row here has been tough... twice the angst!

I know kirk did some last comic standing work with les miles and michigan but ESPN reports CUT has agreed in principle to coach DUKE and will be announced soon... watever that means

ESPN - Sources: Duke expected to introduce Cutcliffe on Monday - College Football

It means you might as well report it yourself without a source. It's been confirmed by other credible source now though.

David Cutcliffe has been hired as the head football coach at Duke, according to University of Tennessee officials. Cutcliffe, who has been the Tennessee offensive coordinator for the last two years, had said earlier Friday morning that he had not been offered the Duke job.

Cutcliffe was the head coach at Ole Miss before returning to Knoxville for his second stint as the Vols’ offensive coordinator.

Duke denies report it has offered job to Tennessee's Cutcliffe

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke officials denied reports Friday the school has reached an agreement with Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe to take over as football coach.

But the Blue Devils are close to making a decision about a replacement for the fired Ted Roof, and Cutcliffe -- the former Mississippi coach -- appeared to be the leading candidate. The 53-year-old Cutcliffe said earlier in the day he had interviewed for the position, but denied receiving an offer.

"We all kind of have a desire to run a program -- that's kind of why I got into it," Cutcliffe said at Tennessee's media day in advance of the Volunteers' Outback Bowl appearance. "That really hasn't changed. I'm still fairly young ... but I just feel like there's a lot left out there to be done."

Duke athletic director Joe Alleva has said he wants to hire an experienced head coach with an offense-minded reputation. Cutcliffe -- who led Ole Miss to four bowl games and groomed Peyton Manning and Eli Manning into NFL quarterbacks -- would fit that profile.

Cutcliffe was 44-29 in six seasons with the Rebels before he was fired in 2004. Duke fired Roof shortly after a 1-11 finish and a 6-45 overall mark in four-plus seasons.

Duke athletic department spokesman Art Chase confirmed shortly before 5 p.m. that Duke hasn't yet offered the job to Cutcliffe, or any other candidate. But Alleva told WRAL-TV of Raleigh the search committee would meet again Friday evening.

"My hope, my hope, is we have an offer in place tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday we have a coach," Alleva said.

Do you think CPF and MH are leaking this info to the Press.

So Duke is saying nobody has been offered the Duke job and the rumors about Cutcliffe accepting the job are false

PR fluff or possibility of truth?
