I like coach Cut but did not want him as head coach. Gruden or bust for me. 5 mil for 10 years should seal the deal.

Cut dropping out our search is like the fat kid dropping out of the relay race at field day. No chance any way.

I wonder if Ainge was talking him up to try to get him a raise. Much stranger things have happened.

He was never on my list. He will make someone a fine offensive co-ordinator one day - but he can't recruit, couldn't recruit when he was here - couldn't recruit when he was at Ole Miss - couldn't recruit at Duke.

Unfortunately for Duke - they may very well slide back after this year -- ( did I mention that he can't recruit.)

Greatest rumor is that the big 3 alumni have met with a coach and already made a decision. They have informed Hart & Pres Cheek that since the university is not in a position to pay Dooley's buyout nor able to sign a gaurantee & commit more monay for the new coach, that the university need not worry about it. They told Hart that an agreement is already in place and to just worry about public perception.

The big 3's have met and come to a financial agreement with a coach. Their goal was to meet with Gruden and work their best angles (which include Peyton) to come to an agreement. If that didn't work, they were to go to Golden or Stoops (who's ready to exit his 7yr deal with Sooners). There was a 3rd & 4th option (u've heard the names). The big 3 don't trust a guy (Hart) being 13months on the job to make a decision for the welfare of the city and the use of the big 3's money (after all travel in and out East Tenn affects Pilots gas sales, right).

So nonetheless, rumor has it that the coaching decision has already been made and that we can sit back and relax. The announcement delay is for the university and Hart to not look like they did a backside deal. But it is a backside deal (like how all of college football works). For us, the question is, whether they were able to close a deal with Gruden or if they had to go to option 2-4. They would not make public that ability to close the deal with option #1 until everything is finalized because then they would lose all leverage for future (like when Muschamp publicly turned us down).

Expect something before Dec 17th.

I have heard similar rumors on other threads - do you have first hand knowledge ? ( For example, are you related to someone - work at Pilot, etc. ) or just re-airing someone's earlier comments?

through 2019.

Duke coach David Cutcliffe has agreed to a contract extension through June 2019, the school announced Wednesday.

Cutcliffe just led the Blue Devils to bowl eligibility for the first time since the 1994 season. His name had been floating through the coaching carousel in recent weeks, and some had speculated he could be a candidate at Tennessee.

But Cutcliffe has reiterated his commitment to Duke and has now re-signed for the long term.

"Without question, we have already made great discernible progress since David's arrival," Duke athletic director Kevin White said in a statement.* "However, as we assess our future -- based on prospect evaluations, ongoing recruitment activity and player development -- we are extremely excited, if not euphoric!* To be sure, 'Coach Cut'*represents just a great fit at Duke.* David and the staff have done an exemplary job of leading the program, while subscribing to the highest intuitional ideals, both academically and athletically."

Cutcliffe, who is in his fifth season at Duke, has led the Blue Devils to a 6-5 record -- including a 5-1 mark at home. His team has been the most pleasant surprise in the ACC this season.

"This business is about people, and Karen and I could not be happier with the people we've associated ourselves with here at Duke,"*Cutcliffe said in a statement.* "President (Richard) Brodhead and Kevin White are the best of the best, and we are grateful for their support as we continue to build Duke's football program.* We've accomplished some of the goals we laid out five years ago, but are nowhere close to where we want to be."

During his time at Duke, Cutcliffe has guided his teams to 21 wins -- 11 more than the program's total in the previous eight years.

Thank God. Now we can stifle the "Cut to Kentucky"/"Cut to Tennessee" nonsense.
