Don't know how much truth there is to this, but I figured I'd pass it along. This was posted on another board by a frequent poster. I hope this list of candidates is not true:

Well, from what I am hearing (from actual donors not internet sniff boards) , the Fulmer regime is over! Yesterdays game was the final nail in Fulmers coaching coffin. The powers on the hill are starting the process to allow Fulmer to bow out gracefully. Fulmer has agreed in principle to "the plan" and look for things to start going public as soon as the Vols are eliminated from qualifying for any type of bowl game. I know some are disappointed that there will be no public lynching...no tar and feathering...no torture of any kind for Fulmer. UT is actually trying to be classy with this change.

The names that are being tossed around are pathetic. The fan base wants new blood, a young coach who will re-charge the fan base. Instead, I am hearing names like Cuttcliff...Tubberville...Bowden...Grobe. This hire, at least from the names I am hearing, is going to be a disaster. Not quite the disaster that Bama goes through when hiring a coach but NOT the type hire the Vol fans want. Gruden's name has never come up so for all those wanting Gruden, I don't believe it's in the cards.

The bottom line is Fulmer has 6 more games to coach and then it will be over. The fan base will be happy that Fulmer is gone but the circus that will follow his departure will be funny to watch. Those of you that want Fulmer to resign or get fired in some nasty "soap opera" type ending will be disappointed. The Fulmer era is grinding to a close but IMHO the new hire is NOT going to be the type of hire most Vol fans want but at least the apathy of the fans will be over...for awhile anyway.

I would hope thats not really the list of names. I doubt cutcliffe would leave duke. if he wins just 2 or 3 more games this year he is likely to get a big fat raise. Cutcliffe is ok but I am not sure it wouldnt just be more of the same. I dont know much about Tubberville but their offense isnt much better than ours right now. If he gets the ax at Auburn do we want him here? I dont know much about grobe so I cant really comment on that. I want a coach to bring some excitement back to UT football. a place where . opponent's are afraid to play (so to speak)(when was the last time that happend).
The coach has to be able to recruit and to instill discipline.

Cutcliffe will be eliminated as a possibility when Duke loses its next 7 games. Anyone with half a brain should have already removed him from consideration.

This is all rank speculation. Once the season plays out we'll know more. Until then, theoretically he could win enough games to get an extension and a raise. Prior to that...

I agree, until one more loss we probably won't hear anything. I'm sure a quiet search has already begun, however.

The fact that anyone is even remotely considering hiring Bowden to be our coach is a good example that this list is a farce. Clemson has once again fallen flat on their face in spite of their considerable talent. They have yet to play in the ACC Championship and have never had more than 9 wins under Bowden. He would be a disaster.

That list is pathetic, but probably on par with what I have come to expect from the AD regarding football. He doesn't want to take the risk on a young guy. The Pearl hire was like playing with house money, there were no expectations and basketball never provided much income so he could do anything. Football pays a lot of bills, so he cant risk multiple losing seasons, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's looking for a solid 8 or 9 win guy.

Oh please no retreads, Tubberville has been passed around the sec more times then a bong at a greatful dead concert. That whole list is disturbing to say the least.

Cutliffe's too old--UT needs a younger coach. Bob Stoops is the best candidate available.

I've seen a few supposed lists from insider's/friends of insiders.

Cutcliffe is the most laughable name of all.

Bob Stoops isn't going anywhere.

And this list is trash. At least I hope to God it is.

I wonder how many more "I have a buddy who is close to the Athletic Department" threads we are going to be subjected to before something actually happens.

Take it for what its worth, but my insider information (Phil called me) says Phil is not going anywhere. He will be back next year, even if he loses out for the rest of the year. This information is as valuable as everyone else's "insider information". What a load of delusional crap.

How is Bob Stoops available??

Here's the thing about Coach Cut, he has only coached poor teams up and into contention. We don't know what he can do with a powerhouse <at one time>. Hell, Fulmer could probably go to a team like Virginia and get them to win a few games in the ACC. That's just a lot different than winning SEC championships out of the East.
