We wish. However, it is not coincidence Tennessee just paid off a Title IX lawsuit and then hired our first female chancellor.
And at the risk of sounding sexist, there are certain advantages and disadvantages to this hire. And one of those disadvantages would be Blackburn (or anyone else) being hired soon.
And whether she is taking her time for sound vetting, for mere appearances, or for spite, only she can know for sure. I discount no motives. We may be waiting until June.
I honestly cannot understand the mindset of those clamoring for this to be done already?
Did our current AD not clearly say he was retiring in the Spring? What are the admins to do ... throw him out early and hire somebody before he retires? It seems to me that the current AD made an attempt for a nice smooth transition with the best possible research and preparation for a replacement WITHOUT a break in leadership.
What gives here. 1/2 this board has been b1tchin' and moanin' about how backward this has taken place. We have a new boss in place who seems to be doing due diligence in filling the position. That's smart in my book. Remember how many whined about the Donnie Tyndall hire and how he wasn't properly vetted?
We;ll Hart prepped everything great for a transition. The newly hired chancellor is on the job and looks like she's properly vetting candidates on a national search. The timeline is on perfect course for seamless transition when Hart retires. I perfectly understand the uninformed (us @ VN) picking favs like Blackburn or Fulmer or even some other.
But, dang it, I can't understand what the uproar is about.
He mentions Fulmer by name and his loyalties are in the open to everyone who knows his history with Fulmer.
While "no comment" might have been PR savvy, it would be dishonest. I respect that he commented. He did not speak negatively about anyone. He promoted his friend in a full disclosure way. Guess I'm saying nothing to really see here and I hope our new AD loves UT too lol
Don't know how old you are, but you seem very naive to think that Davenport might make this hire contradictory to the wishes of big money contributors. She will have her say but they will decide. At least I hope so.
It is true that Hart's contract doesn' run out until a certain date, but so what! We needed the new AD in place to help Butch with all his new hires. If I was a coach contemplating a move to UT I would want to feel secure enough to leave where I am and uproot my family for another job. A new AD could have helped in that regard.
Where is this idea that a UT Chancellor would want to see football fail coming from? It's completely irrational. No UT Chancellor would want that. To put it another way, would you want to make your own job and life harder for zero benefit to yourself and family?
Chancellor Davenport has only been on the job a few weeks. The AD search predates her own hiring and has been a mess from its inception and that's largely been due to the permanent dysfunction our boosters and other movers and shakers have shown for ages. They have too many petty squabbles and rarely put the program above whatever personal agendas they happen to have.
Respectfully disagree. This AD hire should have been a done deal by now. Especially when you consider Blackburn meets every conceivable criteria for an AD at Tennessee. What is the need to shop around? If nobody was really interested in the job, then I could understand.
I was in a suite down from Fulmer'so during the Bama game. All the former players wold make their way to Fulmer'so suite and hang out. They loved him.
Yes Cutcliffe supports him. So does Peyton and Helton and many others. That is a huge positive. Blackburn may not receive that support as backlash. We can see that these past three football coaches don't enjoy the benefits of friendships with Hall of Famers.
Pass on Fulmer and bridges are probably burned because of his age. Pass on Blackburn, less people angered. Besides, Fulmer was very successful. How may UT coaches have won a NC? How many have beaten Bama 8 years straight?
