I don't think AJ Suggs redshirted his freshman year, though. I just can't see a guy redshirting and burning one year, then transfering and sitting out another year on the hope of being handed a starting job at freaking Duke University.

The kid loves UT... Cutcliffe was a plus but he was coming here regardless.

First of all, I expect Crompton, Coleman and Stephens to all stay at UT. Despite your thoughts to the contrary, none of them will be the first highly rated player in college history to ride the pine for a considerable length of time. Second of all, if Coleman or anyone else on our team chose to transfer to Duke or any other school, that would have to be a decision that they arrived at totally on their own. A coach that tries to recruit players away from another school would have a reputation of mud.

I wasn't for certain if he redshirted, but it still seems like long odds of Coleman repeating that feat. Suggs probably saw the handwritting on the wall in 2000 (with Clausen taking over and starting) and made that move. Why would Coleman leave before he's even played a down or even had a chance to compete in spring/summer practice?

Yes, and it's amazing how consistently good a lot of other QB's look. Why do so many think that Cutcliffe is the only one that can coach a QB? Don't anybody mention the Mannings......they would probably have turned out well had Cutcliffe never been around.

Players, in my opinion, should go to the school that offers them the best chance to succeed both academically and athletically. Duke may not be the best school for football now, but if Coleman has bought into what Cut is selling, it isn't going too far for him to think about going to play for Cut... seeing as how he said this:

"I love coach Cut,'' he said. "I've been going to the camps and I've developed more than a coach/athlete relationship. We have a real connection.''


Now he is hopeful that Cutcliffe can do for him what he has done for other Tennessee signal callers.


"Now, I've got an opportunity to play for one of the best teams in the nation,” he said. “Coach Cut will have a chance to mold me like he did the Mannings, Heath Shuler, Todd Helton and Andy Kelly.''



Since apparently some here don't want to read a supporting article.

He's not going to Duke or transfering so stop wasting your time. He's a VOL and always was a VOL. It wasn't like he just started liking UT when Cut recruited him... the kid grew up in Chattanooga - yeah only an hour and a half away from Knoxville. But really - he isn't going anywhere.

I'm not saying I think he will transfer, or I do or do not want him to transfer. I was simply stating because of the strong verbage he gave of his feelings towards Cut that he might be part of the entourage leaving if Cut does go. It makes sense to me. And again, let me reiterate this is all completely under a "what if" clause.

Why is it unprofessional? If you are going to take a head coaching job you have to get in in time to recruit. Coordinators do it every year.

I know the guy okay? Is that enough proof for you? Wow...

I guess I'll put it out there for you otherwise I wouldn't be so confident - there's a difference between "die-hard" and a fan.

Also common sense could tell you he was a die-hard Peyton fan seeing how he wore #16 through out highschool and is now wearing #18.. and his little brother who is supposed to be better wears #10 for Eli... but he's not going to Ole Miss.

Good luck reading articles and making your own opinions from them - I'll just talk to the guy myself.

If BJ follows Cutty to Duke....Which would be good for his professional career to walk out with a degee from Duke...But, if he aspires to achieve success on the college football forefront he is lowering himself into a grave....I have been to Durham numerous times and went to at least 3 football games there, and let me be the first to tell you that Duke Stadium is a tomb....

Duke has buried more coaches into oblivion than any school I know of. Coach Cut has a chance to really make a name for himself as their headcoach, but he will likely find this to be the end of career.

The only coach I know of who walked away from Duke and still could be considered employable was Steve Spurious. All the others just walked away to never be heard from again.

I do wish Coach Cut the best, however.

BJ is Tennessee 100%. What we are all missing is that if BJ were to get the top QB spot next year, you can bet Crompton will leave and that leaves us very thin at QB.

Crompton cries now so you know he will leave if he isn't the #1 QB.

This strikes me as odd.

Try to translate your statement to any aspect of a college except for football. For example, suppose you are a student and you enrolled at UT to study forensic anthropology because Tennessee has the Body Farm and Dr. William Bass. Say Bass picks up and moves to UGA for whatever reason. Why should you not follow? I mean, its YOUR education, right? Why should you not go study under the guy you want to study under?

What's different about football, except for the emotions of a bunch of alums?

The difference is Coleman doesn't care to follow Cutcliffe - Cutcliffe was a bonus for him coming here.. but he was coming here regardless.

That is my point. I'm not saying that BJ will or even might up and leave, but it wouldn't surprise me... despite Bassman's strong "insider information" to the contrary.
