As reported by ESPN over the weekend:

Houston Nutt is not expected to return next season as Arkansas football coach, multiple sources told ESPN.com Friday night.

ESPN - Sources: Nutt expected to be out at Arkansas - College Football

confirmed by local media.

KAIT - Jonesboro, AR: Sources: Houston Nutt Out as Arkansas Razorbacks Coach

On 104.5 the Zone this am Jimmy Hyams said he think's Cut's name will come into early consideration. Apparently, Butch Davis is their #1 choice but Hyams said that per his sources Davis to Arky will not happen. Hyams went on to say that Cut is a Broyles favorite, but that may be what prevents him from getting the job because Broyles is on his way out and his input may not receive much consideration.

As time permits I will check out some Arky sites and see if there's any mention of Cut. I am interested if anyone in West Tn or Arky has heard anything else about this?

hmmm, I'm sure that he will be mentioned but do you think anyone really wants him as a head coach after last time?

Take him. I don't think he's a horrible coach, but I'd be glad to see him go. It just hasn't fully worked out here, although he is obviously better than Sanders, whatever the factors in that are.

The key to that job is keeping the instate guys and pulling a few from Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Memphis. If you can do that, you should do well there. Unless you do dumb things like not playing your All-American on 4th and short.

considering that the majority of the college football world considers what Ole MIss did in firing Cut a monumental mistake in the first place, yes, last time might be exactly what gets him the phone calls.

Word around here is that Arkansas really likes Texas Tech coach Mike Leach and the pipe dream candidate is Jimmy Johnson.

I think a lot of people outside of Oxford think that the Rebs made the worst decision in recent history vis a vis firing a coach when they got rid of Cut. After 3 losing seasons some of the Ole Miss faithful are starting to realize that it was a mistake; however, they are for the mostpart still hanging onto the hope that Orgeron's recruiting abilities will soon elevate their program.

I new they were high on Leech, but UCLA was wanting him to....Wonder which route he will take? I myself dont think he would fit in out in LA, to big of a ego....I say Arky probably lands Davis (if the money is right) or Turner Gill...

This is 100% correct. And for some unknown reason the Ole Miss fan base continues to blame Cut for their woes - which is clearly not the case.

Cut is very attractive as a HC somewhere. I, personally, would like to see him stay at UT at least one more year.

What about Joker Phillips? Can't imagine him staying OC at Ky forever, or is he waiting on Rich to retire so he can slip into that position...Discuss amongst yourselves...

I don't think he's head coach material, but I'm hoping he takes the job, since UT needs a new, innovative approach on offense. Cutcliffe's stuck in the 90s.

People idolize Gus Malzahn around here, it's Mustain and the dudes who transferred who are hated.

i dont' know that i'd be upset if he left, but if for nothing else than for continuity's sake, i'd like him to stay, like you said, for another year to work with Coleman and/or Crompton.

For some reason I am much more interested in seeing where Nutt lands right now. This off season is going to be very interesting.

Hillbilly beat me to it, but I think the majority of the football world thinks Ole Miss must have been temporarily insane when they canned Cut. I personally have been slightly disappointed since his return to the Hill, but there is no question that he took Ole Miss to heights it had not seen since John Vaught.

Cut went 43-29 in Oxford in his 6 full seasons with only one loosing year. That's better than Tubberville (26-20) and Billy Brewer (67-55) and miles ahead of Orgeron, Dunn, Sloan, and Cooper. Overall, he did a pretty good job at a school that hasn't seen much success since the 60s.

This sounds familiar. Same conversation was taking place about a decade ago.

Gus went to Tulsa.

There have been some people around here who've heard Mustain, who's running the scout team at USC, has been tearing up USC's #1 defense in practice. Starting in the spring, they may have a QB controversy with him and Sanchez.

can we get that lucky? that would be a win-win for Tennessee. We get rid of Cut's stale offense and Ark gets a subpar offensive coach.

i agree with this.

another thing to consider, and i mentioned this in another thread, you have a new AD whose first order of business is making a decision on the HFC. a spot that i would think any new incoming AD would hate.

also taking in to account that they may be competing with fellow SEC W rivals LSU and Auburn for HC's....and Nebraska from neighboring Big 12 country...timing could be evrerything in being able to get who they really want.

then think about this.....LSU......miles possibly going to MIchigan, Pellini possibly going to Nebraska.......LSU could have a lot to do this off season.

i for one will take it. i hope Tubby, Miles and Nutt are all in doubt and some recruits look for other places to make homes for the next 4 years......
