Cut welfare if child fails in school

Welfare recipients would make sure their kids would go to school, make at least the minimal grade and not quit school.

*I like the mandatory drug testing also, but it would be too costly.

This is the same guy that introduced the Gay Bill being discussed in another thread, Knoxville Republican Stacey Campfield . It appears he is trying to make the national news this week

It's a prejudiced bill. Also, you've got meth head parents out there that don't care one bit about their kids that are on welfare.

So basically, Mommy and Daddy are druggies, don't make sure their kids do well in school, Mommy and Daddy lose welfare, kids starve. Don't punish the kids.

Hey kids, it's up to you in order for your family to eat this month!

That is actually pretty accurate in a lot of the households on long term assistance. Except in most cases, instead of keeping their grades up they are selling on the street.

Great so let's put that kind of pressure on all of them even though a high percentage have developmental and behavioral problems

Did it ever occur to you troglodytes that there might be parents out there that are smart enough to figure out how to procreate but not smart enough to help their offspring with simple math? Or not smart enough to offer guidance in any way?

We would be better off paying for boarding school for these kids.

Giving money directly to incompetent parents in the name of "not starving the kid or punishing the kids" is ridiculous. The best thing you can give to children like that is an environment where people truly care about them and an environment which fosters success by providing them the tools and motivation to see their dreams realized.

I agree 100% with you. Why would you continue to give money to the parents who uses the money to buy drugs and let the kids starve anyway. If put into a better situation, of which most would be better, these kids could have a chance at a better life.

Or they simply do not care.

That's an argument against welfare altogether which is a different discussion.

Under the premise that welfare systems will be in place, this bill is ridiculous, and from the sounds of it so is this representative.

You have to give intensives with welfare. This is one.

Ideally, we should go to a Singapore style system of welfare.

Another one with this.

We can't fill schools with good educators for 9 hours a day for 9 months a year but somehow were gonna cover 24/365.
