Cut to Bama?

Guys, I just got off the phone with Alabama. They saw my kick ass record on NCAA football on XBOX 360 LIVE and decided I was a "proven winner." They talked to me for about 4 hours about how great their program is and I had to cut them off. I told them the only way I would accept the offer is if I could pay off players and have my assistant coaches sleep with recruits mothers.

This year, BCS is offering something extra - The Boston Globe

"Alabama appears to be waiting for the NFL regular season to end to make one last run at Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban, who has repeated so many times that he is not interested in the Crimson Tide job that some people now think he is interested. If Saban sticks to his word, University of Tennessee assistant coach David Cutcliffe could emerge as a candidate. The money for Saban would have to be off the charts, possibly between $4 million and $5 million per year. Cutcliffe, meanwhile, is an Alabama graduate and has told people he wants the job, something Tide officials have not heard much in the last month. Expect a coach to be named by Tuesday or Wednesday."

I still cannot imagine that Alabama would hire a guy with heart problems that was fired by Ole Miss.

When you put it like that it makes me wonder why UT hired him back? Eventually they're going to have to hire someone and it's probably not going to be a Saban/Spurrier/Carroll type. It probably won't even be a Tedford/Rodriguez/Petrino type. Once you're on the "C List" does it really even matter?

I think he can get off the "C List", but it will take either a lower level Head Coaching job or at least 2-3 years of quality work as a Coordinator.

It's just hard to believe that Bama would go from a Saban/Spurrier/Rodrguez pipe dream to Cutcliffe when there are guys like Jim Grobe sitting out there.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I don't think they had RichRod on the same level as Spurrier/Saban. Guys who have demonstrated the ability to pull a major D1A program out of the dumps and turn them into national champions are on a level unto themselves IMO.

Here's a nefarious thought that crossed my mind. If you're Bama and you have to hire a coach that you're really not that excited about then why not try to screw-up one of your historic rivals by snagging their top assistant?

I think there would be a revolt in Tuscaloosa if they hired anything other than an established head coach.

Wow!!! Have you cruised Tidefans lately. They honestly believe Saban is a done deal. I dunno. The man has repeatedly said not interested. They are saying Bama is also considering Schiano. Schiano already said he is Rutgers. Grobe already said he is Wake. Bama actually still thinks that even after RR, they can call out a name, "next", and they will show up to coach. Is there really a viable chance of Saban going there? Who knows the morrow, but I just don't see it. If it were me, I'd say who's interested and work from that list instead of a fantasy search.

Cut is not a candidate. He is a great coach and good at what he does, but he is not coming to Bama. Heck I dont know if anybody is! LOL! :)

Y'all could always go back to the state bird of Alabama, the Yellowhammer, and make him a better offer!!! :whistling:

Anyone watching the Bama/Ok b-ball game? I read on another board that Jimmie Dykes (calling that game for ESPN) reported that H. Nutt, Petrino and Cutcliffe are the three backups if Saban does not accept the Bama offer by 3:30 tomorrow.

Jesus not this again
I seriously doubt Petrino will leave the 'Ville with the deal he's got there. I keep changing my mind on what I think Saban will do almost hourly. Assuming Saban stays at Miami it's 50-50. Would Nutt leave now? He's primed for a good run next year at Arky but if he doesn't win the SEC and Mcfadden goes pro he may have a short shelf life. Complete toss-up IMO.

Such a short window of opportunity makes me believe its already a done deal, giving him time to let his owner/team in Miami know.

Well, the recruiting dead period ends Friday and Bama certainly wants to have someone in place before they start bleeding decommitments. When I made my earlier post I forgot that Nutt just inked a new deal. Therefore, I'm guessing it's Saban or Cut.
