GVX... 11:54am
David Cutcliffe said Friday morning he has not been offered the head coaching job at Duke. Cutcliffe declined to comment further on his possibilities at Duke, saying he would prefer not to speculate on whether or not he expects to be offered the job.

It was my understanding Duke would be offering to their choice later today, so this is no surprise...

I'm sure that it's only Cut's agent that has received the official offer from Duke.

I'm just surprised that Michigan hasn't wanted Cut as their new head coach. With Cut's conservative playcalling, he's exactly the type of guy that Michigan likes.

I hear dorrell interviews very well. He might not win a single game at Duke. Horrible coach. Why would you hire a guy who has players with NFL talent who consistantly play below their talent level at a place like duke where you need a coach who can coach players up?

Most sources are saying he will be offered the job and will accept it. I think Cutcliffe is trying to make it less of a distraction for his team's bowl preparation.

BTW, it was heard on the radio that no matter what happens with the Duke job, Fulmer said that Cut will coach the Vols in the bowl game. Just what I heard and read.

If Cut gets the Duke job I do not see him sticking around for the bowl game. Not a good way to ingratiate himself to the Dukies.

I agree. That would really set them back from a recruiting standpoint. I doubt he would do that to his new team.

Aren't they about to enter a dead period in recruiting? Doesn't seem like he would lose much

There is a dead period from December 17th through January 3rd. Not much he can do with recruiting which is why he would coach. Normal recruiting does not start back until January 13th.

Granted, Duke is pretty far down the list as far as recruiting powerhouses are concerned, but I would think that getting a repsected name like Cut could turn some recruits' heads that normally wouldn't consider Duke. If he waits until after the bowl game, I think that only gives him like a month before signing day.

I can't imagine that either. He would need to begin assembling his staff and hitting the recruiting trail. Doing that after the bowl game puts him another 3 weeks behind.
