Curtis a Commodore?

I agree, Brock Vandagriff was a very highly rated QB recruit for us, also played at a small high school and he didn’t pan out so well. Nothing is a sure thing!

I mean Isidore Newman is a small school-just happened to be the preferred choice of the Mannings lol.

QBs are a crapshoot at best these days anyway. Look what happened with our 5* Nico from a HUGE school. He sucked. Still sucks at UCLA.

I'm starting to think maybe things may be best to bring in a bunch of 3*s and let them battle it out and freshmen and sophomores. Whoever separated themselves in those years takes the lead for years 3 and 4.

Meh .... I prefer letting a 5 star (Brandon) battle it out with a 4 star (MacIntyre).

There does need to be a competition though. Nobody should ever just be anointed the starter like Nico was.

5 stars aren't going to go and ride the bench anymore

Current Alabama starting QB, Ty Simpson, was a 5 star QB from the Class of 2022. Ty Simpson had never started a game until this season, and he only attempted 50 passes from 2022-2024. Simpson even stuck it out with Alabama through a head coaching change.

There are always exceptions. See Arch Manning.

GMac was a 5* wasn't he?

I mean that's certainly an option. We need to look at the reward we have gotten back thus far from high priced QBs. The answer to that is not much to this point. We had about $6 million invested in Nico.

How much have we promised to GMac and Brandon? Probably another $20 million or so between both by this point assuming a 4 year deal.

Develop some decent 3* for years and put them on a decent NIL when they become the starter in year 3.

Devote the $3.5 million savings to D.

An Aguilar type with a lockdown D could have done some serious serious damage this year. Instead we devoted a boatload to Boo and Stone Hands Matthews.

Ty Simpson got to play Saban's last year some when Milroe was going thru the motions.

Simpson was also smart enough as a coach's kid to wait his time. He could have gone a lot of places.

Jared Curtis is pushing back on reports that he's already flipped to Vanderbilt, but this is obviously another case of a recruit wanting to make a splashy announcement with live media coverage.

He has flipped. He just wants to announce it himself rather than through a leak .... but once the cat is out of the bag, these guys should just go ahead and confirm what their intentions are. Everyone already knows what Curtis is going to do.

Man.

I gotta admit-takes a fair amount of stones as a 5* presumably all world QB to pass on Georgia for Vandy.

I wish him well I suppose, but he has more faith in the long term viability of Vandy than I do I suppose

I think he’s announcing privately, for what it’s worth. The kid may make terrible decisions (in my extremely unbiased opinion), but he at least presents as a class act.

The kid must be too dumb to even qualify for Candybilt

True.

I'm sure this is an NIL driven switch though. Spend a year or two in Vandy making some good money then go play some serious football elsewhere for a few years

Maybe Vandy will shock us all and be able to sustain their success after most of their team leaves in January.. I am not optimistic for them

Scary part of it all is that if the Vandy alumni ever decided they wanted to rule the world in CFB-we would all be in trouble

On one hand, it's crazy to see Vandy flip the #1 recruit from Georgia.

On the other hand, we've seen so many 5 star QB flops in recent years, difficult to know how meaningful it is for Vandy. And Vandy has won the past 2 years by having a veteran transfer QB, where they "knew what they were getting" from his 2 years at New Mexico State.
