John Currie on Tuesday signed a five-year contract to become Tennessee's new athletic director, with his salary starting at $900,000.

Currie's base compensation is $300,000 and supplemental pay is $600,000, according to his memorandum of understanding released by Tennessee to GoVols247 in response to a Freedom of Information request.

Kinda blows my mind that an Athletics Director makes more than the President of the United States..

You guys have to remember there's other compensation being president.

Some of the finest food and it's all free.
Travel to distant locations for free.
Nice home in a gated community. I hear the guys at the guard shack are top notch.
It also comes with a heck of a storm shelter in the basement.

I find it interesting that if we terminate him without cause we owe him $100k for every month left on his contract. So that is $1.2 Million a year when he only makes 900K? If he leaves then he owes us $25k per month. The silver lining in all of this is that going forward he will be the one negotiating contracts for UT instead of for himself...

Yeah, we have a way we with negotiating contracts. Some of the best in the business. Just ask anyone who's ever been fired, they'll tell you how good we are.

I noticed this as well. He stands to be making $1 million on 7/1/20, with those 25K raises. It would cost about $2.4 million to fire him on 7/2/20. It would thus cost less to just send him home without firing him and pay him his salary for the next two years.

I don't think I've ever seen a buyout cost more than the salary before this. It's either a misprint or yet another idiotic UT contract.

Listening to Doug Mathews right now on Big Orange Sunday, it is apparent that the selection process was fixed & the new UT Chancellor is questionable. Also, Currie was instrumental in firing Phil Fulmer & apparently had some nasty things to say about the former VOL coach. Something smells, folks.

That would be the smell of the good ole boys club burning rubber as they are forced out of town. It's a good thing

As long as Currie doesn't get free room and board at Knoxville's nicest accommodations, a 747, Chopper, Limos, unchecked travel budget and an army of staff members and protection detail, I'll be ok with it.

:peace2:

Doug pretty much said Currie raped us on the contract because when they came to him Sunday he knew that the UNC AD had withdrawn and that he was their only choice without having to take Fulmer/Blackburn.
