Currie will hire someone not on "the list"

Lane Kiffin was never mentioned.

Literally everyone knew it was going to be Kiffin.

Remember the whole "MONTE KIFFIN WOULD COME WITH HIM!!!"- stuff?

ALSO- Currie is an old ass AD who doesn't GAF about the future. He's young and has his career riding on this.

He's going to spend some cash- the purchase will secure his future and it's not his money.

They have always not been able to close a deal on top target. Op is right. They will drop down so low it will be someone even google can’t find. They had rather pay the big money on the buyout than the hire.

Gotta be hard being you. I bet you kick your dog a lot, huh?

Let’s take stock of who all has beaten Nick Saban since he’s been in the SEC:

Tommy Tuberville (x4)
Watson Brown
Steve Spurrier (x3)
Houston Nutt (x2)
Phil Fulmer
Matt Luke
Frank Beamer
Dennis Franchione
Mack Brown
Ron Zook
Mark Richt
Kirk Ferentz
Bobby Bowden
Les Miles (x3)
Sylvester Croom
Charlie Weatherbie
Urban Meyer (x2)
Kyle Whittingham
Gene Chizik
Kevin Sumlin
Gus Malzahn
Bob Stoops
Hugh Freeze (x2)
Dabo Swinney

Perhaps we should hire one of them?

But seriously, Currie has a plan. Whether it comes to fruition or not, he doesn’t strike me as the “hit the panic button” type of AD. Having said that, if FL ends up with Kelly, Currie better have someone stellar hidden away.

Every coach we have hired has been someone that wasn't on the list the media posted.

Lane Kiffin was never mentioned.
Derek Dooley was never mentioned. I didn't hear his name until after I googled his name after the hire.
Butch was never mentioned but I knew him since Dooley beat him.

We have been hiring coaches so much we should be pros by now. I expect for our hire to be a complete surprise. I would be willing to bet that it will be a we haven't even thought about.

I know it's fun to talk about, but stop getting mad about "the list" because I guarantee you the only person who knows the list is Currie and a VERY select few.

Currier will hire the OC of North Dakota State. It's real cheap and that's what Currier is looking for.

Only because we couldn't get anyone on the list

Marcus Satterfield of Tennessee Tech...formerly....

That is actually a direction I would like to see UT go.

Stop trying to woo a coach who probably doesn't want to be here. Find the best up and comer you can. One with an established track record.

So is "the list" the one the media has or the one Currie has?

Maybe the "list" discussed by fans isn't realistic? Patterson, Peterson, Stoop? Those are realistic?

Currie is not qualified to bring a successful football coach to Tennessee. Maybe a tennis coach, badminton coach or tiddley winks coach but not a football coach. I have no faith in him, period.

Curious....how do you speak to Curries qualifications? You make a blanket statement like that based on what? Your opinion from info gathered from the Internet? That's silly. Unless you know him personally or have worked with him and know his talents and abilities, you know nothing. He's been on the job less than a year and this will be his first hire of a head football coach. To label him incompetent and a failure before he has ANY history in this arena is asinine. The problem with many in this fan base is a sense of entitlement. Some feel their adoration for UT should be universal. Every coach should want to be here and UT should be willing to spend whatever amount is necessary to get a coach those fans will accept and be happy with. To hell with budgets, it's not their money so who cares. Just give me the coach I want and hire him now. To hell with what a coach wants for himself and his family. He should be willing to be bought and be happy to coach UT.
