Currie: Slow down. Fans: STFU

It's been 17 days since Jones was fired. 17. Technically speaking, the college football season still isn't over. This fan base wasted at least a solid week of non-stop dumb Gruden talk about a coach who hasn't coached a snap of football in nearly 10 years.

Then, less than 3 days ago we ran off a coach before he got here (I DID NOT WANT SCHIANO HERE). I supported the revolt. Beyond the obvious reason no one wanted him at UT coupled with him reportedly being a class A ***hole, UT just couldn't risk this type of hire. With all the rumors about Butch and how he treated players, UT just couldn't bring in a personality like Schiano. Schiano, professionally speaking, is a very respected coach among his peers. So, in those terms alone, Currie was hiring a solid football coach. Not person, but coach....

Our voices were heard though......

Yesterday, he swung for fences with a very big name and a great coach. It's not Currie's fault a guy said no that will NEVER leave his alma mater where he's coached nearly his entire adult life and head coach last 17 years. But, Currie tried.

My hope is that Currie just slow down and take his time. Don't rush. Just take a breather and slow down. Don't make any knee jerk reactions. Just make a good hire. There are tons of possibilities out there and tons of good options.

To the fan base ......just STFU

Yeah, maybe Currie should slow down and take a Carribean holiday.

I actually agree with you. There are way too many folks trying to influence a decision that should be made by a handful of key folks.

Some think they have power because of what happened on Sunday - but that was not us ordinary fans - that was some major players that recognized the bad fit and squashed it.

Unless you can land the RIGHT hire, just bring Fulmer out interim for a year and spend the off season and season getting the RIGHT guy. Way to piss away your opportunity Currie!

The fans aren't the problem. It has ALWAYS been the inept UT administration. Look how Florida handled their coach firing and hiring, as it should be. We kept our butthead coach too long, then bungled the search, as usual, and you're blaming the fans? Pulease!!

LOL - Florida fired their coach at least 3 weeks for UT and only filled it last week - after being turned down by quite a few folks.

And Florida was patient and got a good coach.

OP, stop coming on here making rational sense...lol.

This is extremely public search, and I always look at "what would I do?" (not that I'm qualified, but can have my opinions like everyone else). But, unless I've got a guy on the hook in Gundy caliber, I'm going to release a statement today that "we went after a reputable coach yesterday, and continue to do so, BUT, getting the right coach is more important than rushing...this search may go on for a bit longer". People are now thinking we have to hire today or tomorrow, which would be ideal, but we don't have to.

Who else has Dec 20 circled on their calendar that he told one of our recruits that if he didn't have a new coach by then, UT would have a new AD?

Currie is a meat puppet and should've been fired Monday morning..

He should NOT be interviewing anyone.

You can seriously look me in the eye and blame this on the fans?

Great post. The search has been over for a while, however, and what we have now is a week filled with diversions so the fan base will settle down until the official announcement can be made this weekend. Only one legitimate name will surface and it will be at the end of the week.

Oh good lord stop it already. Nobody is in the mood for these troll jobs anymore.

If Currie stays much longer we'll be knocking down the upper decks at Neyland and joining CUSA.

Everything has been a diversion. Will continue to be until the chosen one is officially leaked. I'll let you know when that is.

seriously ... why should we be waiting until you let us know when that is? who are you, that we should believe you? seriously, why should we believe you?

all i need is just one legitimate reason.

You just stated "the fanbase wasted 17 days", I'm sorry but I didn't realize we were the one officially vetting candidates.

Now you are asking for people to support Currie?

Can YOU be more out of touch with what is going on around you?

STFU

You don’t have to believe me. I’m just giving the courtesy of a heads up.

Not so fast. There are many of us who are out, done until Currie is gone and the negative influences above him are removed.

The gauntlet has been laid. There is a lot of money committed to walk away if the right signals aren't given by the University.

Nobody will care once the coach is announced.
