It's been 17 days since Jones was fired. 17. Technically speaking, the college football season still isn't over. This fan base wasted at least a solid week of non-stop dumb Gruden talk about a coach who hasn't coached a snap of football in nearly 10 years.

Then, less than 3 days ago we ran off a coach before he got here (I DID NOT WANT SCHIANO HERE). I supported the revolt. Beyond the obvious reason no one wanted him at UT coupled with him reportedly being a class A ***hole, UT just couldn't risk this type of hire. With all the rumors about Butch and how he treated players, UT just couldn't bring in a personality like Schiano. Schiano, professionally speaking, is a very respected coach among his peers. So, in those terms alone, Currie was hiring a solid football coach. Not person, but coach....

Our voices were heard though......

Yesterday, he swung for fences with a very big name and a great coach. It's not Currie's fault a guy said no that will NEVER leave his alma mater where he's coached nearly his entire adult life and head coach last 17 years. But, Currie tried.

My hope is that Currie just slow down and take his time. Don't rush. Just take a breather and slow down. Don't make any knee jerk reactions. Just make a good hire. There are tons of possibilities out there and tons of good options.

To the fan base ......just STFU

I would rather be patient and get someone that has potential, then just getting anyone. I think this recruiting class is gone, so take your time and get a good hire, even if you have to put someone in temporarily (Like Fulmer).:hi:

Assuming you’re right that Gundy would never leave OSU, why does random man on VN know more than our AD? That’s disconcerting.

And of course fans waste time. That’s what being a fan is. We are not tasked with recruiting or hiring staff or running practices. We just discuss those things.

I suspect Gundy was theater so Currie could say he tried to please the people and it didn’t work so here’s another Big East superstar for your program.

Lol defending John Currie? He shouldn’t be allowed to make this hire after what happened Sunday.

Mike Gundy was never going to happen. Currie is just trying to change the narrative from Fire John Currie to Yay we might get Gundy. I’d like to think people are smart enough to realize this but apparently not.

They knew he wouldn’t
It was a ploy
Thinking I can trot anyone out now and they will fill the stadium
Maybe Georgia Florida and Alabama fans will
I didn’t want Schiano either
No more bad hires

Yup. I believe this is exactly what went down. Goobersmoocher Currie sure showed us, now we have to swallow the third rate pill.

Great post. The search has been over for a while, however, and what we have now is a week filled with diversions so the fan base will settle down until the official announcement can be made this weekend. Only one legitimate name will surface and it will be at the end of the week.

Which is why Currie should have never considered Gundy.
He did the same thing 5 years ago.
There is a reason all this info was leaking. It was leaking from Gundy.

Currie is an idiot for going there.

You can find my post in this forum around 3:00 when I said this same thing.

They're not. That was all a sideshow yesterday to say he's making a effort to bring in a big name. He shouldn't be making this hire at this point. It's the same thing when we wound up with Dooley. Hamilton was damaged goods at the time and no one wanted to work for him. Same situation and the numbnuts are going to let him make the hire anyway. It's ran by imbeciles. You can't fix it.

Let's enlighten you form the fans' perspective. Jimmy Haslem of Cleveland, Ohio fame hand picked an Ohio State assistant coach whom he had developed a personal friendship with and commanded Currie to hire him without using a search firm or consider anyone else. Unlike you, the fans saw the charade and saved our football program in the process.

To OP
You STFU
Curry has tried to hire the worst fit possible for the situation UT is in now, and a guy that has been at his alma mater 17 years and does not want to go anywhere,
He is incompetent, and will ignore several good candidates and hire a , HC with no HC experience ever, or with a losing record or unknown

You obviously don't get what the true obstacle is here so you. It's bigger than Currie, he was put in place not because he was the guy the majority wanted, not because he was the right guy for the job. He was planted there by Haslam to do his bidding.

It's time Haslams grip on the Athletic department goes. It has to since they have run it this program has been inept and made horrible decision after horrible decision and it is why we are where we are. As long as he is this deeply involved and has pawns like Currie in place we will suffer.

We have to keep the pressure on Currie, on Haslam so other boosters can exert influence. The Gundy offer was window dressing, neither the AD or the fanbase nor anyone else realistically thought he would take the offer. It was damage control for the very ill conceived preemptive strike with Schiano. And if Gundy took it they got a respected coach with no real baggage.

If you can't see, and haven't seen what had been going on in the Tennessee athletic department and why Currie and the"yes" men and women have to go then maybe it is you that needs to "GTFO".

Currie's last job was in Gundy's conference, he pretty much had to know he was not leaving and went public with the numbers and the offer so the world knew Gundy dumped us. There was purpose behind that. Get ready for Butch Jones 2.0 especially knowing they were bringing in Schiano for <$4 million per year. If Currie and the AD really wanted this done now, they call Tee or Kiffin and it's done with phone call in 5 minutes. IMO they intend to punish the fan base, they are going to trot out a guy you have to google and say it's the best we can do since the fans poisoned the well. To which we'll watch UT football struggle to play .500 football the next four years and then Currie and his google coach will both be gone.

Let me make a few points and let's see if the OP's post still holds water.

1. We are one of the highest revenue earning programs in the country.

2. Fan attendance is one of the highest across the country in all revenue earning sports.

3. We didn't hire a search firm because our AD (one of the highest paid in the SEC) said "I got this".

4. Butch was fired weeks ago, but rumored weeks before that. All good AD's have their list at all times.

5. We didn't publicly get told "no" before the Schiano fiasco. Now we have at least twice. The one guy you would like to hear a yes or no from publicly hasn't said that. Why?

6. We start by offering Schiano, but then offer Cut and Gundy. Does this even make sense?

7. We have all the resources that make a major program, but we have trouble hiring coaches in all sports (not just football). Why?

I can go on and on, but you're right the fans need to STFU.

The fans aren't the problem. It has ALWAYS been the inept UT administration. Look how Florida handled their coach firing and hiring, as it should be. We kept our butthead coach too long, then bungled the search, as usual, and you're blaming the fans? Pulease!!

Currie has screwed this up from the very beginning including offering Gundy stupid amounts of money that he was not worth. Now we will have to brake the bank to hire any coach. these guys have no since of timing or direction at all. No plan just running around with no since of direction. They never intended to get rid of Jones until the last minute. Haslams are the big problem and need to go run Cleveland in the ground . oh they already did that well check that off the list

Not so fast. There are many of us who are out, done until Currie is gone and the negative influences above him are removed.

The gauntlet has been laid. There is a lot of money committed to walk away if the right signals aren't given by the University.
