Currie Releases Statement

Vol fans are under attack from the inside and outside. The worst part is that our own administration doesn't give a rats ass about the fans.

The hysteria over Schiano is/was silly and petty. He wouldn't have been a spectacular hire but he would've been a decent hire in my opinion.

Let's get things straight, Schiano isn't at all implicated in the Sandusky scandal. The only evidence against him is some third-rate hearsay that wouldn't come close to being admissible in court. He's been vetted for jobs, big jobs, and some stand-up guys have had his back for a reason. This is just a nonsense angle that many fans on here have abused to defame a decent man's name. It's shameful. I am ashamed that fellow Vols fans have done this.

OK his record at Rutgers isn't great, but it's also a bit of a misleading angle. He turned that programme around from a perennial loser to a team that consistently put in winning seasons and won bowl games. He's shown a good eye for talent with limited resources to recruit there. In a much more ripe area with more recruitment resources I think he would've put in a consistently competitive team here. Granted I don't think we would've challenged 'Bama with him at the helm, but I think the programme would've moved on the right track with him.

The NFL angle is ridiculous. Some great college coaches have failed in the NFL and vice-versa, it means nothing.

Let's be honest, the hysteria over this potential hire has been ridiculous. Schiano wouldn't have been the terrible hire many of you think, he would've been solid.

Currie should've simply stuck to his guns but now he looks weak and feeble for backing down. He has annoyed both sides and his position is probably untenable.

Tell me, since you're willing to gloss over the PSU stuff, that you're still OK with this guy.

Folks we don't have time to fire Currie right now. We need a football coach and a bunch of assistants. Fire him now and you're looking at a flood of transfers and a lost recruiting class. We'll be back to where we were under DD. Let's not go back there

We have nothing to loose. Can we rebuild when nothing was built to begin with?

who is our public relations guy up on the hill. he or she should also be fired for doing a horrible job . It bogles my mind how the fans get blamed for being the problem and all we do is buy tickets a fill that bemoth of a stadium to the tune of 100000 people evry week

Our university and team looks terrible coming out of this situation. You don't sign an MOU with someone and then back out in the manner that Currie did. And for no good reason other than some whiny fans peddling a nonsense angle on the Sandusky scandal. It's pathetic all round.

The thing that stands out to me is beginning of paragraph two. I have followed and gotten to know him over the past FEW years. In other words he was your guy from day one cause you?ve gotten to know him and your buddies.

A statement about the search and his background and the reasoning behind the hire should have been released yesterday with an official announcement of the hire. Things may have worked that way. I would still be against hiring Schiano but may be willing to accept it - similar to hiring Kiffin. The way it was done showed a lack of leadership, a lack of regard for the fans. What about all that - any announcement will come from me - talk from Currie a few weeks ago? Instead we get crap announcements and don't even know whats going on. Pathetic leadership.

I think Mullen was our number one choice and FL nabbed him. Gruden was never going to happen. I would not have been surprised that Schiano was one of the top guys being considered. His name was mooted on several forums.

Reply to what I posted, then, kiddo.

It also appears that this is more than 'some whiny fans' when you've got 70+ state legislators, ranking members of the AD, and more up in arms.

Delusional troll.

Firing Currie is not going to get us a good football coach. The mob mentality has poisoned the well. Would I rather have Gruden, Mullen or someone equal? Of course, but they were never coming here. They see what they will face if they lose a couple of games. Was Schiano my choice? No! But the mob decided he is guilty and he is not a good football coach. The mob is now calling for Currie's firing. Other prospects are running as fast as they can from the lynch mob. Many of the good recruits will too! The mob did themselves proud.

He's NOT. Not even close to tier 1 coaching. This was Haslam's/Currie's choice from the get go. You can get rid of Currie but it won't help. Haslam is the one that needs to seperated from the AD..

Damage control... Very good statement that hopefully lessens the damage to Schiano and UT.

I have my doubts about his guilt in the accusations.

But at the same time, even the appearance of negligence is just as damming to the program.

I guess with this standard, Leech is even ruled out and Kiffen/Petrino are beyond repair.

I totally agree with you on the doubts. But I can see ESPN doing a special piece on the abuses at Penn State every time they broadcast a UT game. They are butthurt knowing they can not show those clips now.

Dont follow other teams I see. Yeah only place this happens is TN, are you kidding me...this happens at all big time programs.

When he was at Tampa, he was voted (by NFL players) the coach players least wanted to play for, Many NFL players and at least a couple coaches called him out for being a dirty coach. Several of his former players have said that Greg the Douche made them dive at players knees during end of game kneel downs.

Also while the molestation "cover up" may very well not be true............why would Tennessee or Tennessee fans want any part of it.....true or not.

I promise you, it's not the "mob" the coaches are running from..

There has to be a front office job for the Browns, tell Currie to jump on that ship. He and Haslam can go fire Hue Jackson and bring in their boy Schiano as they continue on their quest to have the most #1 overall draft picks in NFL history.
