Currie Releases Statement

Written solely to try to prevent a lawsuit but it sounds like a big "FU" to all Tennessee fans. It's going to be hard to hire a coach without an AD but this guy is going to be fired, probably today.

Fulmer interim—- done!
Or Blackburn who is free at the moment

This letter is DAMAGE CONTROL!!!!!
Nothing more, nothing less.

But, it is basically an admission that it was Schiano from day one.

I really don't know what Tennessee does.

He is eventually going to have to resign. He has to. There's no way he can run the department after this.

But, you can't fire him now and not have the new athletic director make the hire or be any kind of attractive to a coach not knowing what he's walking into. Who takes the job with an athletic director vacancy.

I wouldn't wish this on FSU.

Well, maybe FSU

Our opponent fans, rather than hoping we would tap a guy that would tear Volnation apart, are more sympathetic than our own school administration. SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG ON THE HILL

The hysteria over Schiano is/was silly and petty. He wouldn't have been a spectacular hire but he would've been a decent hire in my opinion.

Let's get things straight, Schiano isn't at all implicated in the Sandusky scandal. The only evidence against him is some third-rate hearsay that wouldn't come close to being admissible in court. He's been vetted for jobs, big jobs, and some stand-up guys have had his back for a reason. This is just a nonsense angle that many fans on here have abused to defame a decent man's name. It's shameful. I am ashamed that fellow Vols fans have done this.

OK his record at Rutgers isn't great, but it's also a bit of a misleading angle. He turned that programme around from a perennial loser to a team that consistently put in winning seasons and won bowl games. He's shown a good eye for talent with limited resources to recruit there. In a much more ripe area with more recruitment resources I think he would've put in a consistently competitive team here. Granted I don't think we would've challenged 'Bama with him at the helm, but I think the programme would've moved on the right track with him.

The NFL angle is ridiculous. Some great college coaches have failed in the NFL and vice-versa, it means nothing.

Let's be honest, the hysteria over this potential hire has been ridiculous. Schiano wouldn't have been the terrible hire many of you think, he would've been solid.

Currie should've simply stuck to his guns but now he looks weak and feeble for backing down. He has annoyed both sides and his position is probably untenable.

This.. Currie i.e. Haslam had their guy from the get go.

I hate to say this, but if I'm advising a recruit or coach, I would tell them to steer clear of Tennessee until Haslam has been torn out buy the roots and gotten far away from the AD..

Get this idiot out of here and give Blackburn the job.

Good grief, this is an extremely dumb statement released by Currie!

What was his record at that big east powerhouse?
The player relationships and ethics are
More damning than even his mediocre record.
There was NOTHING remotely positive about this hire

Wow! I honestly can't believe they actually let him release this. I can't stop shaking my heads at this whole mess. Pure craziness.

My God you idiots

Look I am not an idiot
So stop calling me that
I didn’t want him because he is not what I expected as a coach
I wanted a true winners not someone that is a 68-67 coach
Why fire butch if that is what you want
There is and were better candidates
So stop saying we don’t know what to look for in a coach
Don’t you believe it’s time for Tennessee to start being relevant again if not leave this board and find another team
So you know I have a 9 year old daughter that excels in anything she does
Very fast in track
Very intelligent
Has gotten call backs for talent agents in Los Angeles
Saying this now : As her father she will not enroll or attend the University of Tennessee until the Bot can assure me they are willing to make the program better
The baseball hire look good so far but this was beyond anything I have ever seen at the University
Kiffin I didn’t want thought NCAA sanctions
Dooley knew it was because of Kiffin
Jones didn’t want didn’t think he was the right guy
Now this
No No No More

Folks we don't have time to fire Currie right now. We need a football coach and a bunch of assistants. Fire him now and you're looking at a flood of transfers and a lost recruiting class. We'll be back to where we were under DD. Let's not go back there

Nope. Put the search on hold. Fire Currie. Put in Blackburn as AD. Forget about the early recruiting period. Take the next month to make sure we get the right HC.
