The tone of that statement is one of him talking down to the fan base. The fan base that he is working for and is supposed to have a pulse of how they feel. I'm all for giving people a second chance, however he just sounds like someone that has no remorse or understanding as to the reaction this received. Which to me means he is out for himself and not the betterment of the program. He needs to go.

Folks we don't have time to fire Currie right now. We need a football coach and a bunch of assistants. Fire him now and you're looking at a flood of transfers and a lost recruiting class. We'll be back to where we were under DD. Let's not go back there

But, you can't fire him now and not have the new athletic director make the hire or be any kind of attractive to a coach not knowing what he's walking into. Who takes the job with an athletic director vacancy.

I dont give a rats ass. Ill take 5 years of crappy seasons just to wash away the stink that has decended on my University. Fire everybody. Bring the best minds we have that came from UT, bleed orange, and want nothing other than for UT to succeed, and build this s**t back from the ground up. I would support an 0 and 12 team if I had to next year to completely wipe the current AD administration.

Imo Currie is correct in what he says, but also wrong in what he did.

It does not matter why 95% of your fan base hates your hire, being a contrarian to your constituency is not good. He needs to know his audience- a delusional bunch of fans living in the past. If you’re going to get a coach like GS, you better have leaked it enough to know the reaction

I have my doubts about his guilt in the accusations.

But at the same time, even the appearance of negligence is just as damming to the program.

I guess with this standard, Leech is even ruled out and Kiffen/Petrino are beyond repair.

Currie’s statement basically tells us that he has known Schiano for years and wanted him as coach regardless of what the fans want (which in itself isn’t so worrisome as that is his job). What is worrisome is his judgement.
Schiano has major issues that in my opinion make him a very poor choice.
1) he had just over a .500 record in a weak big east conference
2) he was an absolute failure in the nfl
3) he is notorious for being loathed by his players and has incredibly poor relationships with his players
4) his ethics are deplorable ( putting “hits” on players, etc)
5) his turning a blind eye on Sandusky is just the tip of his issues

In short Currie either has horrendous judgement or was negligent in his vetting.
One must question his abilities and the confidence we have in him.

Barrett Sallee: Good For Tennessee Fans For Rising Up Against Greg Schiano

Makes the case for why this was a bad hire, even without the Sandusky connections which would have been mentioned in every news article as long as he was head coach.

This was John Currie's chance to show why he was hired to be the AD, and he blew it in the most spectacular fashion possible by choosing not only a bad football coach who is arguably worse than Butch Jones at the off-the-field running of the program, but one that also has baggage that literally no other candidate for the position would bring with them to the program.

If Currie felt this strongly, why did he throw Schiano to the wolves at the first opportunity?

The AD needs to be a leader, not a yes man.

Is there anyway we can clean house? Can we fire all of the BOT members, Chancellor Davenport and Currie? Is that even possible? President Joe also? I feel like UT needs to hit the refresh button with all ppl In charge of making decisions. Along with keeping HOH as far away from UT as possible!

Heckuva thing to have to say in a press release about a potential coaching hire. Will it also be in the next coach's hiring announcement?

And do we add "never deposed and never asked to testify in any criminal or civil matter" to our hiring criterea along with "can win chamionships" and "highest integrity and character"?

Written solely to try to prevent a lawsuit but it sounds like a big "FU" to all Tennessee fans. It's going to be hard to hire a coach without an AD but this guy is going to be fired, probably today.

Are you serious? What about him makes him a solid hire? I have to know!

Have you even really looked at this guy? Take out Penn State and look at everything else! His record is garbage at Rutgers and in the NFL. Way too many people saying his character should be questioned! Now tell me how he would be solid.

Currie shows a tremendous lack of character and leadership . Schiano shouldn't have even been on the radar , Much less having an offer made .
Currie should resign or be forced out .
