He didn't say much.

He evaluates each program every day.

The football team has shown improvement.

"This is a marathon, not a sprint."

Everyone is focused on Southern Miss.

Edit: He didn't answer any phone calls.

Now we know where Jones gets his coach speak.

Cliffs:

Game thoughts: Disappointed. Players played hard the whole game. He specifically mentioned Vickers having a great game and season.

How he handles speculation about Jones' job security: Jones and I gave a strong relationship, knew of him before I got here, we work hard to be supportive of each other. We see each other every Sunday, win or lose. We are all disappointed but you put that game behind you and look at the next game

How he handles the Twitter noise: I came back to UT because its a national program with a national following and passionate fans. We are happy when we win, disappointed when we lose. The noise and expectations come with the territory. Each day, regardless of the result, we have work to do. That’s what professional do.

On how he avoids knee-jerk reactions: Step back and take the big picture view. His dad was a surgeon. No problem you can't make worse by operating. Have to be careful. He believes supporting staff and players for the next game is most important.

On whether he will evaluate the program at the end of the year: We evaluate every day, we are all evaluated every day. Learned from Coach Snyder…let’s win this play, are we gonna be better today than we were yesterday? Guarantano getting better, young players are promising. I know folks are frustrating with W-L. We must support our players…our seniors only have 3 games left. This is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a long process.

" we must support these players"

These ppl hide behind the players and make alot of $ off them. This is a call to put false shame on the boycotting fans. They want your $ at the concessions and merchandise. Look at the cost of all that stuff plus the cost of season tickets. Business. They care more about taking your $ instead of improving.

Butch' presser today was already padding for a loss. You would think Southern Miss was an SEC team.

Spot on. Just goes to show how afraid Butch is of his job. I want a coach to say, “they’re going to come in ready to play us, because we’re Tennessee. But we don’t lose non-conference games at home, and I don’t think this game will be any different.”

Did you expect him to just come out and say: “hey I am talking to 5 potential coaches.”

He is letting this play out. Doing the background work and will make the announcement when a replacement is secured.

I doubt he’s doing anything. Butch will be back in 2018.

Sure. Just tell the truth.
“Vol fans, I fully agree with you. Butch sucks as a Coach and lies about players tripping over helmets and embarrasses us all with his stupid rhetoric. I would have fired him after the Georgia debacle but the Haslams wouldn’t let me. You do realize that family runs this place, right? Anyway, here’s hoping that Southern Miss kicks our ass on homecoming. Then, they might finally allow me to get us a good coach in here.” - John Currie
