He did it to himself. He wanted total control of the hire. No search firm. No communication will come out until I announce. Had his mind set on Mullen, then Chip goes to UCLA, then Mullen picks UF over UT. Currie panics and gets sloppy and everyone knows he is in Columbus. We all know how the rest of the afternoon went
Until there is a way to fill the $$ void that would be left when the Haslams stop donating, very little will change.Fulmer won't help the situation any. Fulmer is a two bit politician. He'll just do the Haslem's bidding in hopes of keeping the job permanently. Besides given the crappy assistants Fulmer had a long track record of hiring, we really don't want him making this head coach hire.
Getting other major boosters together to outweigh the Haslems and hiring David Blackburn is the only way to fix the problem.
Give the OP a chance to let it play out. I wish Currie was fired before he was wheels down back in K-town last night. But I knew that was a pipe dream. There is a tremendous amount of information floating around that Currie is gone. Its just going to take some time.
OP you did go All In though. Time will tell if youre holding trip aces or a pair of deuces.

Fulmer had staff stability. Didn't replace key coaches very often WillisFulmer won't help the situation any. Fulmer is a two bit politician. i dont want schiano as much as anyone else but the fact is there's no proof the guy covered up for sandusky. just one word against the other. obviously it was a dumb idea to hire schiano but chicken currie isn't going to be ran out of town over wanting to hire him, key word here is "wanting". There was no contract signed and apparently wasnt only currie pushing it, davenport did as well. so fire currie, davenport, fulmer, and the entire board if you want change.
well they need to be forced to decide if they want the haslems' money or the fans money.
Until we get some freakin' positive change, every single fan should stop spending a single penny on anything ut. That means tickets to any sporting event, any university donations, purchase of any merchandise, etc. It's time the fans send a message that we are tired of be crapped on by the haslams and their stooges.
Wait Phil Fulmer had a long track record of hiring crappy assistants? Please name some of them.. CPF made one hire that didn't work out well for him at the very end... up till that point he had a long track record of winning a lot of games. In 17 years (16 full seasons) he won 152 games and lost 52 (148-52 in full seasons) and went to 15 bowls.Fulmer won't help the situation any. Fulmer is a two bit politician. He was fired because he didn't do what the boosters wanted. He was fired for the exact thing that fans are all clamoring for now. Please stop talking out of both sides of your mouth.
A great number of UT fans are too immature to be composting anything. All of you were given sound reasons as to why Gruden was not coming to UT. It was explained over and over that his salary From ESPN was greater than UT was able to pay. Made no difference to most of you. You were like drunken sailors . You were going to have it your way. So now that we have ruined the recruiting class foe 2018.Where do you think we will find a Head coach? UT needed def. tackles and off. linemen. I do not see success for that to happens. Infact our only source is to go JR. College, and we have not had a lot of success with that. So what does the future look like . Another 5-6 years of of absolute poor football success. However you can sit back and say" I told you so". In mean time the program deteriorates to the point that UT cannot compete in the SEC. Your happiness is complete!!!!!!
You want a list of bad Fulmer assistants, well here is just a starter list:
1) Pat Washington
2) Larry Slade
3) Kurt Roper
4) Kevin Ramsey
5) Steve Caldwell
6) Jimmy Ray Stevens
7) Matt Luke
8) Stan Drayton
9) Jason Michael
10) Randy Sanders (as offensive coordinator)
11) Greg Atkins
etc, etc. etc.
By the way, if Fulmer was so good at hiring assistants where are the great ones in the Fulmer coaching tree? Answer: There aren't any !!!
By the way, you site Fulmer's overall record, but do you know what his winning percentage was without Cutcliffe on his staff? Answer: Only 59%
The bottom line is Philly Bag 'O Doughnuts rode the coattails of Johnny Majors and David Cutcliff to the HOF.

I can't believe we are in this position. I finally had some hope when Butch was fired. "Enjoyed" 2 weeks of optimism waiting for a big new hire. Could it possibly be Gruden? Would I be ok with Mullen? Laughing over the "Bring home Kiffin" remarks. After getting tanked last night at home to Vandy we started hearing of a possible announcement today. Sure enough...things started leaking. How did we get to where Schiano was on the verge of being announced? Quite possibly the only man that could have brought this fanbase to do what it did. Would we have revolted over Mullen? Kiffin? Leach? Petrino? I often wondered how VN would react if it wasn't Gruden. It wouldn't have been what happened today. Currie had to go out and sign a MOU with literally the only person that could have initiated this response. Reading the tweets of outside media...will anyone come and take this job now? Who is going to have that responsibility to go out and find a coach? Currie should be gone. I hope there are legs to this story. I am not ready to give up on the Vols.
