Davenport said he was "on leave" and ESPN described him as "suspended" this morning.

So technically he is currently still employed by UT.

We don't have to pay him a buyout just yet.

I am assuming there will be a negotiation and then he will settle for some amount of buyout.

Still technically a University employee though.

I think they’re trying to determine whether they can fire him with cause before proceeding

Standard procedure under contract when being fired with cause at UT. A hearing date will be set and Currie can choose to attend and contest if he chooses, but he is gone regardless.

I've seen posts referring to what we owe him and how that might affect the money available for a new coach. We don't owe him **** at the moment, and may not owe him much.

And the same for Schiano. I think the total buyout to the both of them will be $1 M or less.

Bottom line...there is plenty of money for a new coach.

Phil has a salary and a contract. He’s taking over as AD.

Currie is done here, only waiting to see if he can be fired for cause.

Not saying he will be AD in any capacity, just wondering where UT is going with the whole mess.

Mostly just speculating that his buyout, if any, is not going to be any big deal.

Ummm...any proof or just wild speculation? Consensus opinion in the media is that those two clusters will cost us around 10 to 15 million.

No, he’s “fired”, but they’re trying to fire him with cause so they don’t have to pay his $5.4mm buyout, hence the pertinent legalese. But he’s absolutely done at Tennessee.

There were allegations that Currie has interviewed for the AD jobs at Arkansas and Wassau. If he did so while on UT's nickel and riding on the Big Orange jet, would that not be just cause for termination of employment? But what do I know... I just worked for the Department of Labor for 17 years after retiring from the Army Security Agency?

I'm aware he's done, just thought the firing was official.

Where are you getting $5.4 M for the buyout? He only made 900K a year for four years, or so I read.

As for the report elsewhere in this thread that Schiano and Currie together could cost $10-15M, someone is writing some really good fiction.

The total cost will be a tenth of that, at most, and could well be zero. An MOU signed by only an AD is not even close to a contract, and what did the MOU say anyway? Did it spell out terms? Did it mention amounts? Did it cover the buyout terms? I certainly don't know, but those details matter.

As for Currie, whether they can fire him with cause depends on what is in his contract and how it's written. Regardless, they are almost certainly going to give him something anyway. My guess is 500K.

If Currie is fired with cause and it's a strong case, anybody think he'll claim that he was afflicted with a mental disorder and try to exploit the ADA?
