The case could be made that the fanbase devalued the brand by their reaction to the Schiano debacle.

At this point, however, it is simply undeniable that Currie is devaluing our brand. Davenport, having not acted on this, is also now culpable in this ongoing devaluing of our brand.

Currie must be fired.
Davenport should probably also be relieved of her duties.

Do you agree that the Tennessee brand is being damaged by these two individuals?

Absolutely. Whomever decided to kill Tennessee has done a good job.

First step, destroy the product. Dooley and Butch, check.

2nd, destroy the brand. Hamilton, Hart, Currie, Davenport, check.

Product and brand. How are these "executives" still employed? They weren't hired to navigate the closing of a company. The authority structure is clearly screwed up. The fan reaction might be the only pathway for making a change.

Everyone has contributed to this dumpster fire. We're going down on this boat together. If Currie salvages this, I wouldn't fire him. He'd be a damn miracle worker. That said, I don't even know what salvaging this looks like. I hope I get to find out.

Tennessee brand has been damaged since Joe Johnson and Doug Dickey left. Those were football guys that knew it was important. It's not the case up there now. You have a booster with too much power and influence. His hire suggestions suck. Fooley, Botch and a guy no one had on their radar in Schiano.. I suspect because of his past history of being a dick and possibly the Penn State tragedy. You have to fix that problem or it won't get fixed.

I'm tired of the fans getting the blame for what's wrong at Tennessee. It's the structure of how they do things. Has been the problem forever. It's why most good coaches won't consider us even if you throw 7 million at them.

They also had a great deal of tenure - I think Dickey had been here for almost 20 years - and had established good working relationships with the players around the programs. Dickey was a fantastic athletic director. All things considered, he probably could have gotten this 4-8 Tennessee team into a bowl game. We rant about coaches but that steady hand on the till has been sorely missed.

Was it Soda drinkers fault that New Coke wasn't good? Was it the customers fault that the switched to Pepsi?

While the customer isn't always right, on this case, it's not the customers fault.

Maybe that's Bev's angle here. See if his job is enough motivation to pull off a miracle. If so, it's a dumb angle. It's looking more and more like there really is one guy in charge.

Yes. I totally agree. You can't blame the very thing that made the brand so profitable in the first place.

It's an unbelievably sad state of affairs.

Do you think that hiring Doeren will be a salvage job?

If you do, you haven't read anything about his record at NC State. The team under achieved for most of his tenure there.

This year was a huge disappointment based on the talent on the team. Mostly seniors and he did not even win 9 games. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

And after the hiring of Doeren, there will be no brand called UT anymore.

Brand has been devalued for some time. Not sure how much downside is left, frankly.

Forget all that...if we make a good hire all will be well.

I know no one thinks that will happen, but I am going to reserve judgment until the coach is in place.

Doeren hasn't been hired yet, so the "hope" for a miracle technically still exists.

I agree with this as far as it goes. But, pushing back a little here, if another bad coach is put in place, what good will your judgment do at that point? I feel like that's what we endured with Dooley and Jones.

Yes. Half these azzclowns rail on him for leaving us for Florida. So what. He came back and oversaw the best period in Tennessee football in the modern era. We got some idiot fans and administration. Joe Johnson also needs credit. He used to put academia in their place and tell those fools where most of their money came from. They run the show now and it's a shat show.

Currie is devaluing you and me and all of the rest of us. He is the human embodiment of "devaluation". I think I get cheaper every time I hear something from him.

Currie and Davenport are incompetent. Especially if the reports are true that Davenport is the reason why Brohm turned down Tennessee. Pride comes before the fall and the pride of the Tennessee's athletic department is keeping them from hiring Lane Kiffin. Tennessee football may not be winning but it's still a valuable product with huge potential. We have quality facilities and a loyal fan base that has packed Neyland for a decade despite a poor on the field product. Until we fire Currie and Davenport, Hire Fulmer or Blackburn for AD, and remove the ties to the Haslams then Tennessee Football will continue to have issues. JMO

You're 100% spot on. The athletic department has been a disgrace since Dickey retired. This is the main reason good coaches avoid the Vols. The current chancellor wants to be Vanderbilt....well....she can shove it. She needs GTFO and go to Sewanee if this her goal..

Remember that the right coach can pretty much fix anything. Think how low the Penn State program was during the height of the Sandusky scandal, and then look how fast they came back.

Are you talking about the report that Davenport offered him less than the original amount after she saw his buyout, etc.? I believe that was Clay Travis--has it been verified? Travis has been coming off as a pretty sloppy "journalist" throughout this coaching search.
