Currie and Davenport in their holes this morning

According to all accounts, this whole debacle is on Big Jim. Currie needs to walk up to the podium, own it himself, because it's actually HIS JOB to make these decisions, and move on.

THEN open up the checkbook and go hire us a good football coach that he's actually vetted, instead of sitting on the beach.

THE stone cold facts are a booster shouldn't have ultimate say so over the hiring of a prominent position at a state run academic institution.

Currie sitting there with that arrogant, stupid smirk on his face. I still cannot believe that that jackass actually thought this was a good idea. I knew this guy was going to be trouble from day one. I suppose he figured that us dumb ole southern boys would just fall in line and bend over again.
He is so far out of touch I don't have words to describe how deplorable this move was.
But I'm just repeating what everyone else has said.

This is how I feel about it..

I hope it humbled him a bit, but if he is narcissistic enough he may just be angry.

I think they are hoping this blows over quietly and there is no sword falling.

Personally, I think both he and Davenport should both be canned.

I am sure they are trying to salvage any hope of support by solidifying another deal for a decent coach. That way they can come out and dictate the narrative on their terms instead of other's.

This will also keep the questions about Schiano to a minimum, instead it will be about the new coach.

However, I couldn't agree more with everyone's assessment...look we all know Currie and a pocket man for Haslam. I think Volnation did an exceptional job yesterday in saying, No, we will not accept a sub-par hire again. We want to win and want a proven winner...not Butch 2.0.

Cross your fingers, it is going to be a wild ride!!!

that's another thing that bothers me,, why not call a presser and put the truth out there , no PR firm anywhere would advise a client to just say nothing and let everyone else do the talking

Currie had one job here. One freaking job. And he not only failed, he spectacularly failed. He failed more than any human has ever failed. I'm not sure there could have been a scenario of him failing any worse than he did.

There is no reason one of these two outcomes doesn't happen today:
1. Resign to save a shred dignity
2. Be released for gross negligence and incompetence

I blame Chancellor Davenport as much as Currie. She has direct oversight of the UTK Atletic Dept. She is Curries boss. All she had to do have someone spend about an hour doing internet searches to KNOW Shiano wasn't the right hire. From there it goes ALL THE WAY up to President DiPietro and the Trustees Athletic Committee.

No one did their job!
What abject incompetence on the parts of Davenport, DiPietro, and the Athletic Committee to not have reigned in Currie before he gut shot the football program.

Hyams just now on twitter:

"I'll be speaking at the Knoxville QB Club today at Calhoun's on the River at about 12:15 to 1 pm, pinch hitting for Tennessee athletic director John Currie. Probably won't speak but about 5 minutes since nothing is going on. Boring times at Rocky Top."

The only way to come back from this is with a heck of a hire.

Tee Martin, Cutcliffe, or Fulmer ...maybe Les Miles.

Haslams are a piece of work. Perennial failures at Cleveland, and I'm sure were behind the CBJ hire. JImmy sucks as an NFL owner. Billy rams a 6 cent a gallon gas tax hike through the legislature by illegal committee procedures, and once this is accomplished, they turn around and sell half of Pilot to Warren Buffet. They played the whole state like a piano.

Agreed. But in any business, failure rolls down hill and the first man down should be Currie. The fact it hasn't been reported he is out is troubling. The longer the wait, the more the failure climbs up. If Currie isn't out today we may see Davenport and DiPietro's heads on the block by the end of the week.
