Good thread and all but DT stats are 100% irrelevant. If there doing their job correctly, stats are small, the linebackers stats are amazing.

vince wilfork is the perfect example. outside of some crazy picks and a sack here and there he just controls the line and keeps the gaurds off Mayo and Hightower..

just sayin

As a D-line coach I have to say your post is 100%.............CORRECT!

The stats are irrelevant. It's about resetting the line of scrimmage and eating up blockers. Anything else is gravy. I want guys that create CHAOS!

Can find similar stats from other JUCO D-linemen that would piss down their leg in an SEC game. Stats mean nothing.

That depends on what you want out of your DTs. If you're looking for disruptive, penetrating types who can do more than just clog up the middle, then sacks & TFL are probably something you'd want to look at.

sacks are for qbs and tfl are runners

Correct. To be even more specific: A sack is tackling someone attempting a pass(could actually be a RB or WR). A TFL is tackling a player behind the LOS on a designed run play(could be a Q run). A QB that is forced to scramble on a passing play is normally counted a sack. Usually left to discretion of statistician.

Actually Reed is rated ahead of Lamin in the 247 rankings. He's a 94 overall and Lamin is a 92.

I pay no attention to those composites. They need to get rid of those because the rankings are effected a ton if you have one whacked out service like Scout or ESPN rank a guy so totally different than all the other services and he plummets in their composites. They should just do away with that whole thing and stick to their own rankings.

Totally agree with this. I want Pearson and Malone but if we could get these guys that would be huge.

ESP when your entire dl is graduating and all your wideouts will be here for 3 more years

Seeing that in the aftermath of the Georgia game we got the commitments of Blair and Barnett, beating the Gamecocks could result in more coming on board. For that moment, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with our full load of 30.

Of course, that doesn't mean recruiting is over; if the class were to fill with, for example, the Berry brothers, Malone, and Mosley, we may have a couple more to de-commit, and I wouldn't be surprised if Paulk grey shirts with his ACL injury. And since the high school season isn't over, Paulk may not be the only one I expect to delay arrive on campus until the winter of '15 due to injury.

Lots of possibilities that would mean the work for the 14 class is not done. However, getting to 30 would be cool.
