We need an ignore Gruden thread button.

You can lol. I did.

Click on thread>Thread Tools>Ignore This Thread

I got caught up in it in 2012 but not this time lol. I tried to say why it is not going to happen but at this point they will believe someone with 4 posts and a join date of 3 hours ago. It is delusional to the point of being scary.

They are all worshiping The Beaver over there....and not in the good way!

Since Mullen is rumored to be on our list. And apparently Kevin Sumlin is soon to out at A&M. Then there is Gus Malzahn who is rumored to be out if he loses to both Bama and Georgia. And of course we know our white whale, Jon Gruden. IMO there will be heavy consideration give to prior SEC experience when it comes to deciding our next coach. So if we just had these four which do you prefer.

I don't think it'll be any of them. I'm looking for T Martin.

My female coworkers wanted to know why I laughed so hard.

Gruden's most likely smart enough to surround himself with killer coordinators, as CPF did, and would pull in the best out there. Recruiting-wise, there's no doubt his first class and at least a few thereafter (depending upon successful seasons) would easily be top five. Still ...I've got numerous reservations, but I'd have him as HC in a heartbeat. Mullin? I'd be thrilled to have him in Knoxville. Sumlin? Nooooooooooo! Not as many systemic breakdowns as Butch, but still he's not put together the right formula considering all the talent running through that mega-program. If Gruden says "No," which he most likely will, then let's get after Dan Mullen ASAP.....if...of course...we're just considering Gruden and/or SEC experienced coaches. Mentioning Smart or Saban doesn't even rate any comment.

Gruden won't come here. I may be wrong but he would have to work 3 times as hard as he is now working and get the same amount of money..
Also, if he is not successful, then the love affair that people have for him will dissipate.
This is a high risk, low reward for Gruden...

i have no idea what Grudens contract looks like but I do know espn has had many cutbacks with reporters etc...maybe gruden is looking for an out that is and has become a dumpster fire at espn...

Only job Gruden takes is in the NFL PERIOD....As soon as PM announces he is a GM that is going to be where you find Jon gruden coaching.

I could definitely see that..either way tho there is a real possibility that he is open to options here or there due to espn and the change of direction in the company..

I’m still rooting for CBJ because he is still our HC. This is how I came up with my decision on whom to vote for.
1) Dan Mullen - Done more with less talent than anyone else currently in the SEC
2) Gus Malzahn - Already hit peak IMO
3A) Jon Gruden - No HC experience in college
3B) Kevin Sumlin - Can’t get over the hump
You bring up a point that people seem to constantly skip on Gruden. Never been a HC or even coordinator at the power5 level. Hasn't coached on any level since the current recruiting class was in kindergarten.

He actually only has 4 years of experience in the NCAA period. 2 as a GA here and 1 each at 2 directional schools (SEMO and Pacific). He last coached a game in 2008. I sure as heck would not want to chance that in a situation like this. He can probably recruit to some extent on name alone but do we or even he know if he likes recruiting or is good at it? He dealt with professionals in need of minimal development. The worst NFL player was at some point a top college player, lets not forget that.

All of the things we worry about and complain about with CBJ are complete unknowns about Gruden. I give it 50/50 he will either be amazing or a complete dumpster fire. If we had a built up roster of talent.

I would chance that coin flip but we cannot take any chance on our next hire. Smart gets a lot of credit for whats going on at UGA but he got a team that had won 10 games the 2 years before. He is a good coach on a team that is swimming in talent year in year out. Behind Bama UGA is the most consistently talented team in the SEC. Followed by Florida/LSU.

Gruden is too much of a coin flip for me to be comfortable going that route. There is a reason he hasn't coached in 10 years. I don't think he is dumb enough to do it. make 5-6 mil a year on espn super low pressure or take a slight raise do 10x as much work and get on the weekly soul ripping emotional roller coaster of college coaching?

brohm: Not leaving Purdue after 1 yr.
Mullen: Getting paid plenty of money with ZERO pressure.
If Arkansas fires Beliema that is where Kiffin goes. Boy would he like to be the reason saban calls it quits.

I think Jon Gruden is not interested in college at all. He could have just as easily took over college game day for the same amount of money with ESPN if he wanted too. His persona is what sells him. Yes he knows football, but so does the other 100s of coaches. Gruden couldn't hold a candle next to Bill belichick like the other 31 NFL coaches. For Currie that would be career suicide. Tennessee doesnt need to be paying severance checks to gruden if things were to go south. Just my opinion though.:good!:

Dan Mullin has done a lot with less. He has done it with 3 star recruits.

I would take Mullen over a Google hire any day. If we can't get Frost then Mullen would be in my top 3 on the wish list. As bad as I may get flamed for saying this Kiffin would be 3rd in terms of attainable coaches that can win here. I do not like the way he left but if the main reason people are pissed is that he bolted I will take that over the reasons we have been pissed at our last coach and now our lame duck coach.

I would definetly take Kiffin, he is divorced now so he can bang whoever he wants as long as she is single. If he keeps more focused on the head between his shoulders instead of the one in his pants the sky is the limit for that guy.
