Since Mullen is rumored to be on our list. And apparently Kevin Sumlin is soon to out at A&M. Then there is Gus Malzahn who is rumored to be out if he loses to both Bama and Georgia. And of course we know our white whale, Jon Gruden. IMO there will be heavy consideration give to prior SEC experience when it comes to deciding our next coach. So if we just had these four which do you prefer.

I’m still rooting for CBJ because he is still our HC. This is how I came up with my decision on whom to vote for.
1) Dan Mullen - Done more with less talent than anyone else currently in the SEC
2) Gus Malzahn - Already hit peak IMO
3A) Jon Gruden - No HC experience in college
3B) Kevin Sumlin - Can’t get over the hump

Not seeing the big push for Gruden. As many have stated, no college coaching experience and out of the game for years. I'll go with Mullen.

I hope you Gruden lovers are right if he were the one to be hired. He will cost a large fortune with a huge buyout, and may want more than a 5 year contract, so if he only has average performance (no more than 8 regular season wins with no East division championships) we will probably have to keep him up until at least one year before the contract expires because we won't be able to afford the buyout until then. Also, I hope whoever they hire, they make it clear there will be no contract extensions for anything less than an East division champions, a mistake they already made with Jones.

After watching the FAU game Friday night, I would gladly take Lane and his brother Chris. They have made a real difference in that team.

Grudenites flame away, but I just don't get the infatuation. Nothing in his resume says he would be a successful college coach. Just don't see Currie pinning his career to such a risky hire. Mullen, Malzahn, Sumlin all less risky hires.

This would have been a good poll with just SEC coaches. Gruden is the clear answer here.

Anyone worried about Gruden as a recruiter need not. He can surround himself with assistants who are great at recruiting and Gruden will will get recruits just by who he is and what he's done. Not even Saban can brag on winning a suoerbowllike like Gruden can.

Why is Gruden even mentioned in this?

Honestly, I am still torn on hiring JG. While I am confident that he will bring in very good recruiting classes I am not as confident on his success here. With the amount of money that has been supposedly offered it is a very huge risk, with the potential to be an unmitigated disaster that will cost us for years.

The list that the OP posted, Mullen is the only SEC coach I would take minus Saban or Kirby which will never happen.

If Gus and Sumlin are fired, then they will want to come to a program that sets them up for success. They will NOT want to come to a situation in which they could easily be fired again in 5 years.
Remember in the NBA, Phil Jackson refused to go to a bad organization. He wanted to win, so he went to Chicago & the Lakers and both of them had a loaded roster, so it was easier for him to succeed. Notice that he never went to Milwaukee or Washington.
Urban Meyer did the same thing.

I think we go all out for Gruden and if we don't get him, then there will be a huge drop off. I see no middle ground on this hire. Either Gruden or another bUTch type of hire. Such as Mke BoBo....

Gruden is not coming to TN as coach. He has a cushy job announcing, he gets to look like a QB genius with his camps, he does not get dumped into a pressure cooker every week when he loses.

I voted for Mullen- best coach we could get for the money. Has done more with less.
