Not one offensive lineman? I know we're set at OL right now, but they atleast need to get one or two big boys in each class.

No sir, ALL VOL.

Excellent. Sorry about that. I had prepared a smartazz remark to what I thought was a Kentucky fan.

Yes, you are right. Fulmer preached that you take at least one OL in every class. But we just have so many right now, and excellent quality, I can see why they didn't pursue many (if any). I think they lightly recruited the Andrew Jelks guy but I was glad we didn't get him. We do have both Posey and Kyberson who will be redshirt freshmen this year on the OL.

Bullard counting towards the 25 limit is bullsh!t. That's the stupidest rule I've ever heard.

Just a question, but condsidering Dooley's law background and loopholes (Bama signing over 25) has there been any confirmation or word directly from Dooley or the UT Ath Dept as to the exact number of scholarships they will be extending this year? Basically has Dooley stated that they will sign only 23 new recruits or is it still all speculation and wording taken from the NCAA handbook or whatever?

He said in the last presser we were going to sign a full class.

I agree, we are pretty solid right now at OL. I did expect to atleast have one this year, but we should pull in a few next year for sure...especially with all of the talent coming up in the '13 class.

Here is a good recent thread on the topic. Go over to pages 2 & 3. Read how LWSVOL (Larry) explains the math...

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-recruiting/153543-question-recruiting-2.html

I still don't believe that. It makes no sense for someone to count toward the 2012 signing class after playing the 2011 season. If that logic applies then coaches would never reward walk-ons with schollys because they would count on the next recruiting class. Because technically Bullard is a walk-on because ND didn't release him.

We redshirted three OL last year so the demand for more wasn't as pressing as it was with DTs, DBs, and WRs. We went after some big time prospects, ie Humphries and Cochram(sp?), but you got the feeling that unless we were getting blue-chip guys the staff was willing to pass this year.

Next year is gonna be a different story, I imagine we'll find a body or two to stand next to Sanders who looks like a really good prospect/kid.

Good question. I want to say that someone official said that they would take a full class of 25. When they do that, it means that either 2 or 3 more are going to have to leave by mid-summer to get down to the 85 total number. I have been watching it fairly closely and I do not think that Dooley said that. He probably doesn't want to hem himself in on any exact number. If a couple flip in someplace else, and he doesn't get replacements that he wants, then he might stop at 23 or some such. Bottom line, we are finally going to be right at a full boatload of 85 come August. That will be nice!

Yea I remember that too...I'm hoping that means 25 new scholarships not counting Tino or Bullard...but I don't remember ever hearing a number directly from him

The roster has really turned over the past few years (in a good way) and it is nice to be at the point where they can take 23 - 25 of the best players and not just whoever they can get

You can hope all you want, but Thomas and Bullard are counting against this year's class if they are awarded scholarships, which it is almost universally agreed upon that they are.

If the walk-on has been a part of the program for two years or longer, then he doesn't count against the 25 number. I don't know why the rule is that way but it is written that way for some reason. Like Larry said in that other thread, Averett will count against the 25 number for Michigan State. Auburn got a tailback named Mike Blakely from Florida and he will count against the 25. And Notre Dame did release Bullard.

I would update that list with the following categories:

100% Solid (No chance of a last minute switch)
Pretty Solid (may be taking a last minute token visit(s))
Waivering (Santos, McNeil, Bourque, etc.)

I don't think you're going to EVER get another "100%" prediction from OCI!!! (Not that I blame him )

Here is what I found.

(On whether he anticipates signing 25 players this year)
"There is a good chance, but that number is always a moving target. You can't go past 25. You can, but I guess there will be consequences. You can do whatever you want."

Yes, exactly...he had to grab some fillers for sure in 2010 and perhaps also in 2011. That kid that he just offered this week from Memphis...I hope he isn't just a last minute filler. We have a very good class. I wish signing day was tomorrow instead of a week from tomorrow.

lol Dooley...lawyer talk...what he is really saying there is he isn't going past 25. He just had to throw a little teaser on there to keep Hyams on guard.

I would say the best-case scenario is Bullock walks on and we close with Patterson, Q. Davis, and Kirven.
