I've recently gotten into college football after a lifetime of watching the pro game. I've always wondered why major colleges have games with small schools that they are expected to beat the snot out of. What's the purpose?
Umm, competition maybe? But seriously, quoting a 10-win season and being happy about it when 2 or 3 adversaries had no chance of winning is specious at best.1. College teams don't have preseason games so they need some tune up games.
2. You don't sniff the NCAA championship with more than one loss. In the NFL you can make the playoffs with 6 losses. Why dramatically decrease your odds by scheduling 11 juggernauts?
