Against NC State but the referee just walked away. Cuonzo was asked about never getting technical fouls by Vince Ferarra on 99.1 today.

Seriously? WTF is this guy doing?

I really don't buy in to this strategy. If it gets anyone fired up, it's the fans. And if you want to be really cynical about it, why would anyone think it would make a difference? Martin can't get players motivated on his own, so why would they all the sudden respond to a technical? Not to mention you almost certainly give up 1-2 points in a weak attempt to "fire up the squad."

An even better question is , why would he ever admit this?

Him getting a Technical is the last thing this team needs. We got lucky he failed at doing that.

Him showing a little fire and emotion is exactly what this team needs. Does it need to come in the form of getting a technical? Not necesarrily, but it would definitely be a start. He never takes a stand for his players during games. Stokes gets officiated like he's Shaq or something. People run into him fall down and he gets the foul. At some point as a coach you have to stand up for him. This team consistenly comes out and plays "flat". You can argue that this is the cause of many different things, but when it is as consistent of a problem as it is for us at some point you have to point the finger at the coach. The way we came out against NC State is a direct reflection of our coach's attitude and demeanor. I love that he preaches being in constant control, but you can still be in control and show a little emotion. The last thing I will say about technicals is...Look at the two coaches with the most wins ever in men's basketball...Coach K and Coach Knight....I guarantee you that if stats were kept on how many technicals coaches were whistled for the two of them would be at or near the top. And many times after they get those technicals the calls in the game start to go there way. It is a strategic move that some coaches take to their advantage. Is it something I want to see Cuonzo start doing all the time? No. Do I want to see Cuonzo start throwing chairs across TBA? No. But for crying out loud a little emotion would go a long, long way.

I imagine the ref was bored out of his mind while Cuonzo was "trying to get a tech". I'm sure that's why he walked away.......he didn't want to fall asleep on the floor.

Martin is a complete joke. The only thing he does right is ,he keeps proving night in and night out that he is clueless.
He should go out and buy the "How To Get A Technical For Dummies" guide.

I don't disagree with your post but with the way this team is playing right now I wouldn't want to spot the opponent more points.

I can't disagree with that, and that's why I said it doesn't necesarrily have to be a technical. I just want to see some kind of emotion. If it comes in the way of a technical I'll live with because I feel it would end up being for the greater good.

He said the referee, Green, just walked away from him.

Hey I have an idea. Just tell the referee that that was a horse $$$$ call. That would probably do and add a coat throw for good measure and BOOM - technical baby.

Cuonzo needs to call 1-800-Bob-Knight if he's really that clueless on how to get a technical.

So if the ref walked away....just follow him. You can get a T for merely leaving the bench; if you leave the bench and are telling the ref how much he sucks, I'm pretty sure he'd give you the T you're looking for. I mean that's pretty much how Pearl got his T at LSU his first year.

Also, I could have sworn I've heard this before from a UT basketball coach, maybe Buzz Peterson; that they tried to get a T but couldn't.

You heard it from Cuonzo. He said the exact same thing last year after a game when he was watching Stokes get the hell beat out of him.

I would have gotten my moneys worth on at least one of those calls at the end of the WSU game too.
