CCM is putting together a beast class to go along with our legacy football class. I really haven't followed basketball recruiting that close before, but has Cuonzo had a class this good before?

Anyone think that the energy, excitement and success Butch has brought is spilling over into basketball recruiting? Just a thought...

No he hasn't. But ehh partly and we can also offer playing time and CCM is normally pretty good with recruits.

The smokey football jerseys had zero effect in basketball recruiting, if that's what you're asking.

I was referring more to the constant social media buzz for UT. I'm sure the BBall recruits see it just as well as the FBall ones.

The purpose of my post wasn't to take anything away from Cuonzo. He has to recruit, land and coach the guys. I was just saying that if #vols or #volnation keeps popping up on guys twitter feeds, they are going to be more likely to give us a look to see what the hype is about. The title is Cuonzo puttin in work, not Cuonzo riding butch's coat tail...

Sorry if it came off the wrong way

Your point is taken. It may have a very small effect as far as attention the school is getting but at the end of the day he's going to choose based off his relationship with the coach and or the university as a whole. Its like the uniforms. A kid isn't choosing the school based on the Jersey but its an added incentive that the school may have a cool uniform. So you may have a point there.

Recruiting for basketball is different than for football. I don't really believe CBJ's recruiting has had really any effect on basketball recruits. The best thing about this class is that he's completed enough of it early enough that he can focus completely on Black or Looney all the way til signing day.

Well he did get Robert Hubbs for 2013. Basketball is a different animal whereby one or two players can have a big impact, much more so than in football. Players like Tobias Harris are worth more than a pair of average players.

Even though the Austin kid said he was going to be the Vic Wharton for Vol Basketball recruiting? I hope they are paying attention and like what they are seeing. It would be great for both programs to get it rolling on the hill.

I truly believe the 14 class for basketball and football are going to be the classes that make a big impact 3 years from now.

Butch has created excitement about the Tennessee brand among fans, recruits and the media. I feel like it has helped Cuonzo with some name recognition but he has to sell his program to the recruits and their families and convince them it's the place for them to develop themselves as basketball players. If you are recruiting 4 and 5 star players that can go anywhere, it never hurts to show them that there is excitement in the fanbase that will carry over to all sports due to the renewed pride in the sports program and all things athletic. In other words it's a team effort and excitement about the football program can't hurt the basketball program. Go Zo!!!

If it has anything to do with recruiting then I don't mind it being in the recruiting thread even though it's basketball. Keep up the good work Martin!

I highly doubt that D1 basketball recruits are saying "man, look what Butch Jones it's doing with UT football. I'm gonna go play basketball there." Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I really don't think there's any correlation.

But you do have a good point, lots of bball recruits visit for football games. It gives us an advantage in that regard.

Unless you are a big name at a big school, basketball recruiting takes longer to develop relationships. The time table is moved up about a year with the early signing period. What you are seeing is a good recruiter who needed a little time. He hadn't established himself at a mid major, but he recruited some big time talent at Purdue as an assistant. Fans aren't always patient, but as we all know, this doesn't happen overnight.

I know what your saying. A recruit will analyze and decide based on the bball program but Counzo and his staff are impressive individuals as are alot of coaching staffs around the country. If

a recruit has several offers and all things being equal when trying to decide where to spend the next 3-4 years, it can't hurt to have an exciting environment to do that in. No doubt Cuonzo knows what he's doing but an exciting campus can't hurt. Both Butch and Cuonzo have us fired up. In past years it was football over in Dec. then wait till next Aug. but now it's ok now it's basketball time!

Dude, this is CCM's 3rd recruiting class. Not his 8th or 9th. He's establishing himself and his program which for UT takes a moment when the tradition is not a Duke,UK,UNC kinda program. What's expected is progress in recruiting along with wins/losses. He's trending in the right direction. Now let's see what this team does on the court this fall.

I'm very excited about ball this fall.
Hope the defer works out. If so, I expect a good tourney run.
