Cuonzo just made his bed and is betting

I hope one of two things happen. 1. Iowa beats the breaks off of us and counzo gets fired. 2. (I would prefer) we get to the sweet 16 or higher and cuonzo takes another job. Either way I want pearl back.

No matter what happens the rest of this season Pearl won't be back, sorry.

Cuonzo knows he's gone. But it will be him leaving for another job, Big Ten job. Tennessee will be left scrambling for a coach. Sound familiar football fans??

Coach Martin has known since Hart didn't extend him last year that his work here was never going to be appreciated. He'll go to the Big Ten and coach a long and prosperous career. He's a good coach and even better man. Tennessee fans don't know what they're losing.

They really don't. They're too focused on instant success from a team that was picked to get second to last in this conference when he got here. Smh.

Hart is smarter than I thought! He may be a good man but he is a underachiever.

1) Martin will not be fired this year under any scenario other than a surprise major NCAA violation. The situation was make the tournament, you're safe; miss it, you're out. He made it. That bought him another year (and possibly more depending on how far they advance).

2) Hart would almost certainly counter-offer any interest from anyone else. The only job Martin might leave for that he could get IMO is his alma mater Purdue and it doesn't look like they will have a vacancy.

And even if the UT job were to come open, They. Would. Not. Bring. Pearl. Back.

How funny. When August comes Coach Pearl will have a number of attractive offers. The internet is lit up right down in AL with both Bammer and Auburn fans drooling over the prospect of possibly having Bruce Pearl, but he will get better offers than that. Reading what other SEC schools' fans are saying, unlike some UT Pharisees, they are NOT bothered by Coach Pearl's brush with the NCAA!

You have a choice. He can return here and return the Vols to real winning again or do the same for one of our SEC rivals. Then you will still see him twice a year as his team beats ours on their way to championships and Cuonzo stands there saying, "What happened?"

Been saying this for years…

Martin gets the game of basketball. His style just doesn't fit in Knoxville. It has a lot to do with trying to play fundamental basketball in football country. People want excitement more than solid fundamentals.

Also, the SEC plays a different style than the Big 10. I think he looks to lateral if given the opportunity. What opportunities are out there though?

Not sure if this is true…

Where is this idea that Martin is going to leave coming from?

Couple of tweets by Rucker. First one was Rucker saying that if he was Cuonzo and got a lateral offer he'd take it and leave. Then another tweet by Rucker quoted Martin as saying the chips can fall where they may with him (personally) but he wanted this for his staff and team. Followed by another with Martin's 'true fans' comment.

Fact is....

When I look at a roster that has:

Senior Jordan McRae, who has been the best scorer we've had since Lofton, and who had his best season as a Vol.

Jarnell Stokes, who is a former 5* player, and who COULD play in the pros next year, averaging a double double and dramatically improving his free throw percentage...

Jeronne Maymon, who averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds a game, after coming back from injury...

Robert Hubbs, a 5* player, though young...

Antonio Barton and Darius Thompson, who between the two of them, netted 150+ assists (Thompson got 81 this year)

I expected to make more than just a play in game. I expected that making the tourney wouldn't even be a question.

This season, regardless of what happens from this point on, is chalked up to coaching. Whatever happens in the tourney is because we have some talented players that are just now for whatever reason, beginning to play well.

But some of the decisions we've seen this year? Terrible. Just for one example....why in the heck is Armani Moore not playing more? He averaged less minutes this year than he did his freshman year! However, in his less minutes, he scored 16 more points than last year, and only had 8 turnovers! He had 31 last year....with more minutes! He has crazy potential, and he became much less of a liability, and yet, he's average less minutes? What in the heck?

I'm just saying, when this season began, to know that we had Stokes, Maymon, McRae, Richardson, Hubbs, and to pick up Barton and to see that Darius Thompson was a surprise, I did NOT expect to just squeak in. This was the year that we were supposed to make noise. Instead, I'm just praying to God we don't get blown out by Iowa.

THAT'S why people want Martin to go. We had a lot to work with, and we're barely scraping by. I truly believe if we don't play Florida close yesterday, we're in the NIT.

When Martin doesn't win games, it's because he sucks. When Pearl doesn't win games, there is an excuse to avoid putting any blame on him. Exhibit A why the pro-pearl crowd is borderline retarded.

Have you placed any blame on ccm this year for underperforming?

Seeding is so random, it's hard to hold the play in game against him, to be fair. If the games weren't in Dayton, I honestly believe Dayton takes our spot.
But as far as the rest of your post, I look at it like this:

If you had told me coming into this year we would have been finishing 3rd behind FL and UK, losing in the SEC tourney to the number 1 team (and 1st overall seed in NCAA) and beating another 1 seed by 30, I'd have taken it.
We are now playing as well as just about anyone in the country, and most experts are predicting us to go to the sweet 16.
It's hard for me to really feel all that disappointed when a team finished about where most they thought they would, and still have a bright outlook in the dance.

Rucker is spot on. If I were Zo and got a lateral offer, I'd be outta here. Wouldn't shock me at all if it happens.

Wouldn't shock me nor would I be upset. Just look at the production from players signed by CCM and it's easy to see the direction we are headed. This excluding Stokes who fell into CCM's lap and will be gone next year anyway.

Pearl is the only guy I know that can get himself suspended but not get blamed for the results.

As many grown men as there are in this forum fantasizing about Pearl, you should rename it from the basketball forum to the M4M forum.

Let's be clear with what you're saying. Either we rehire Pearl or you hope to see him get another SEC job and beat us every year? Am I misreading because the tone of your post certainly suggests that, despite your user name suggesting you're a Vol fan. It's one thing to believe Martin is not the right coach, it's another to hope that if he's retained Pearl beats him any time they play(provided Pearl even get an SEC coaching gig). Are you suggesting you would root for Pearl over the Vols?

There have been plenty of games and instances to make fans question CCM's coaching acumen this year, but guess what, we're still in the dance. That's something to be happy and hopeful about, not pissed off. And even if CCM were to be dismissed or leave of his own volition, there are other coaches than Pearl that could coach this program. Not to mention these other coaches don't come with a three year lay off or the NCAA baggage that's just begging to put us under the microscope.

Mercy, there's lots of numbers bein' slung around! Let's get down to the actual, bonified RECORD of Coach Bruce over his 6 great years at UT!

From 2006 thru 2011 Coach Bruce beat Little Billy 8 times and lost 5, including 2-0 sweeps of the gaiters in 2006, 2008, and 2009. In fact Little B even won the national championship during one of those years Bruce and UT swept him. In 2010 UT and the gaiters split the series.

Agin Kenturkey Coach Bruce won 4 and lost 9, splitting the series 1-1 three times. The only time he failed to beat either the gaiters or Kenturkies was his last unfortunate year.

Course that was what folks calls Old School, and Gonzo M is taking us to places where we ain't never been ever day--like a NCAA play-in game with the #6 team in the Big 10. We'uns has just got to ferget Coach Bruce if we ever 'spects to be politically correct in this here newfangled Knoxville town I guess!

I think you might be better off not coming up with nicknames.

We finished 4th in the SEC, not 3rd. Georgia finished 3rd.

Only the smartest of fans picked this team to be in the position it's in now. By smartest, I mean those who didn't drink the kool-aid and believed Martin would have another terrible start to the season. They were right. Except we were bad til later than normal this season. But due to the mysterious schedule strength, we've scraped into the field as one of the 4 worst at large teams.
