Cuonzo is Perfectly Fine for Vols

and we ended up on probation because Bruce cheated and lied.

What else did we not find out about Bruce and what he was doing here?

At least with Martin, we know he is running a clean ship and winning with quality people.

I dont want a pastor.....I want a basketball coach......he lied is the only thing that got him in trouble....he committed secondary violations if he had told the truth would have been no big deal just like the secondary violations zo committed.

Has won what, exactly?

2011–2012 Tennessee Overall 19–15 SEC 10–6 T–2nd NIT Second Round

2012–2013 Tennessee Overall 20–13 SEC 11–7 T–5th NIT First Round

2013–2014 Tennessee Overall 24–13 SEC 11–7 4th NCAA Sweet Sixteen

The sheer volume of revisionist history in this one thread beggars description.

We just rode 2 top 75 4*, a 5* and two top 150 3* as our top 6 in the rotation into the sweet 16 and the discussion is that you don't have to have top recruiting to win?

The stuff about Pearl is idiotic too. In 5 years he took us from a dead weight, do nothing program to a basket away from a Final 4. How? through top 10/20 recruiting classes and top ranked transfers.

Further, to not give him credit for them is really far out. I give Martin full credit for Barton and Rhett if he lands here.

What is it Martin is keeping hid?

You are assuming that we know CCM is running a clean program. It took six years to learn about the BBQ and the lie. You are also assuming there were more violations by Pearl.
The truth is very few if any on this board know what goes on behind the scenes of our mbb program.

145 games, the first outright SEC Championship, in 40 years, and more NCAA games than any coach in school history to name a few.

The SEC championship was a regular season championship. Really doesn't mean much. Also if we are talking about winning games than Cuonzo won 3 games in the tourney this year and UT has only won 3 games in the tourney once. Really Bruce didn't win **** and Cuonzo hasn't won ****

The regular season is the only one that means much.

There wasn't an SEC tournament for decades.

The SEC Champion for 2008 is Tennessee.

Do you think a 4-12 Georgia team getting hot and winning 4 games in 4 days a few years ago was a more impressive accomplishment than Tennessee going 14-2 in the SEC or Florida going 18-0 this season while playing every team in the league?

Bruce and Zo both won 3 games, but Elite 8 >>>> Sweet 16.

No idea why you and a certain subset of fans are hell bent on downplaying the great run of basketball played by guys like Lofton, Smith, Chism, Prince, Williams, Tabb, Maze, etc etc.

Was it not Tennessee winning those games to? Are you guys just fans of a certain coach but not the program?

I'm even very proud of the NCAAs and games we won under Jerry Green.

No clue why you wish to run down the program at every turn.

A regular season championship doesn't mean anything?

How can you even be a fan of college basketball and say that.

Comical

Lots of folks very upset by my use of the Russian word "whatevski". Sarcasm, wit, and downright brilliance is simply not appreciated on message boards.

Both the first and last sentences of my OP still apply.

I very rarely start threads, and it's even rarer that I post in the basketball forums, but there's a first time for everything.

I'm a proud "told ya so"er for Cuonzo. Backed the guy the entire season (check my twitter, as that's the proof for everything). When the Vols were 10-4, and people were calling for Cuonzo's job, I knew there was very little our coach could do right in the final season of Bruce's show-cause.

Forget, if you can, the insanity of Bruce Pearl. It was fun. It was crazy. We were awesome. It was destined to be short-lived. But just try to set it aside for a moment.

As a realistic Vol fan (I know that's tough for some), how can you fire/want someone gone who has won 20 games in each of his three years at Tennessee? (Yeah his first year it was just 19 but whatevski.)

In the words of Milton Friedman, "it's important to have a sense of proportion." We're not freaking Duke, Kentucky, or UCLA. You can sit there and say that we should be and then fire any coach who doesn't always reach the Elite 8, but all you're going to do is dig a deeper hole.

A successful Tennessee basketball program is 20ish plus wins per year, compete hard in the SEC tournament, and make an NCAA run every couple years. Mix in some special teams every five to seven years. If you demand Sweet 16 finishes every year, you're going to have to de-emphasize football because the kind of recruits that will get you there consistently want to go to basketball-first schools.

Being the exceptions like Ohio State, Michigan, or Florida (good in both) takes years of development.

Take a look at the first three seasons of Billy Donovan:
13-17
14-15
22-9 Sweet 16

Tom Izzo:
16-16
17-12
22-8 Sweet 16

Cuonzo Martin:
19-15
20-13
24-13 Sweet 16

I'm not quite ready to call Cuonzo the next Billy or Izzo, but would you not agree that Florida and Michigan State were right in giving their coaches more than 2 years? And Cuonzo's been better!

Chill out, dumbasses.

I guess CCM is "just fine" for Cal.
