The blocked punt was huge now, huh....unfortunately I had said earlier we were due for one.

I want to talk about though that this kid's release worries me. The staff was talking about it all summer as a worry that he gets the punts off a little slower than colquitt and I think it very much may have come back to bite us in the butt this game.

Now I know I'm going to hear about the line, I know it's there fault too, you've got to block for the punter. But it you look at the replay, the ball's already off his foot before it's blocked, maybe for 1/2 a second or so. It makes me wonder that maybe, if he didn't take his sweet time that play, he might have been able to get it over the hands of the UCLA players.

However, I can't really argue whether the block would/wouldnt happen. However, the main question I pose is, what's going to happen to this kid later this season against UF, UGa and other teams that will rush us more now? Are we going to see more blocked punts in 08 as the season goes on?

no punter in the country could have gotten that punt off. There were 3 guys in his face in no time. Absolutely pitiful blocking.

cunningham will be fine. there was no way he could have avoided that block other than just laying down and taking a hit head on.

A spread punt formation is going to result in blocks. That's just how the world works.

There's no way you can watch that replay and think it was even slightly Cunningham's fault. The almost took the ball right off his foot.

True, but watch the replay from the side, it kinda looks like if he gets it down quicker, the punt might have gone over their finger tips.

That said though, that was absolutely terrible blocking by our offensive line. I dont like this new scheme at all

What kills me is our three back blockers all blocked to the left side even though the right side was overloaded.

Yea that spread formation where no one even thinks about blocking anyone was some masterful coaching.

Maybe, i'm just proposing the thought, not arguing the point in this case. I feel that you're right on that as well. I just want to see what people think about that.

I'm mainly getting to and worrying that later down the line, a punter who the coaches all summer have said has a slow release: will this lead to more blocked punts?

If you're going to blame someone for our punting game, blame Colquitt for not taking his opportunity seriously.

well right now, i don't think it's an issue even needing to be addressed. if he can average 40 yds a punt with adequate blocking, I'll take that. Get Crompton comfortable in the pocket, teach him how to check off receivers and how to get out of the pocket if necessary.

Most importantly tell him to put in his freaking mouthpiece so that A. he doesn't get all his teeth knocked out and get a concussion and B. we don't get a penalty infraction on a big play. Did anyone else notice that?

He put a couple of punts inside the 20. That block was going to happen regardless of who was back there.

He did a good job tonight imho.

I don't see it happening. If he got it over one guy, the other two would've gotten it.

Our special teams lost this ballgame for us. They left at least 16 points on the field...

I think Nick Saban is a good coach, but him running that formation from his own goal line in the '03 National Championship was pretty stupid.

A Gerald Jones return set us up for at least a field goal. The offense promptly lost a ton of yardage.
