Cumberland early dinner options

I think that Copper Cellar remains your best bet on The Strip. Sunspot is fine, and wouldn't be most fans' first choice for gameday dining so it might not be that crowded, but the menu obviously isn't what comes to mind when one thinks football and it puts you on the opposite end of Cumberland (right next to Pilot).

Saloon 16 at The Graduate is okay, but its menu is super limited and I wouldn't classify it as having better quality food than Copper Cellar. Worth checking out if you haven't seen it, especially since it'll be less crowded for Ball State on a Thursday than it is for Florida on a Saturday, but your initial instincts were correct.

Nothing wrong with tradition. The Cellar is always a must visit when I come back to town.

Gus's Good Times Deli is pretty good.

The Strip ain’t what it used to be. Much better options downtown. Isn’t much further of a walk.

Gus's, Sunspot, are still good, have heard Zen sushi bar is good, and you can never go wrong with the Copper Cellar.

Is the Half Barrel still in existence? Pretty good food and beer selection in the past.

If it was just me, I’d probably get a Tropical Smoothie.

If I was with the fam, I’d probably target Stefano’s with a backup plan at Mellow Mushroom.

Also, parking at Publix/Fieldhouse Social is about the best decision I’ve made if you don’t have a UT parking pass.

It's a heck of a walk from the Lake Ave garage!

I love our downtown options, and we hit them regularly. I need a park, walk Cumberland toward the stadium, take in the GameDay atmosphere, eat some good food, and grab a pre-game beer spot.

If I was with the fam, I’d probably target Stefano’s with a backup plan at Mellow Mushroom.

Stefano's is also going to be redeveloped into mixed-use retail and student housing in the near future (it'll relocate, apparently, but obviously a lot of its charm is related to that location on 20th/Cumberland), so if it's a place one enjoyed going during their time at UT the nostalgia window is rapidly closing.

It was one of the last places on the strip that I remember from when I was in school.

Honestly before the game the wife and I will probably be at Schulzbrau or otherwise in Old Town. Maybe a little Gus's postgame.

Stay off the strip for any dinner would be my recommendation. Lots of great places in Knox to eat. We will be at JC Holdway Friday night.

I remember going to split one of those pizzas and a pitcher of beer or two with my roommates in that dingy little place all the time. The Strip is unrecognizable in a bad way now.

I’ve always liked sunspot. The new location is nice, but it doesn’t have the same college strip feel as the old. Is Stafano’s still around?
