I don’t use debit cards. I’ve had an account pretty much frozen after a cardreader was used to hit a checking account. Every purchase is made with a rewards credit card.

And yes, I write down all transactions (ACH payments for credit cards, automatic payments, the occasional check, plus deposits etc) in a check register. I add or subtract each one when it happens and confirm with the bank every two weeks or so.

And I can tell you, this can be pretty darn handy when trying to hunt down an old purchase or something. It’s at least as much history/record-keeping as it is the + and -.

Yeah well, I can see every transaction from as far back as my online banking started, at least 10 years. Try keep up with everything in a check register when you have a joint account and the wife has checks and a debit card. Don’t have that problem anymore but still.
