Mom made hers with sausage or ground beef, lots of onion and layer the bacon on top. That's what I did, except I added raw onion at the end. I used Tennessee Pride Hot sausage and Smoked bacon.

Edit: and BBQ sauce.

Ftw.
I remember the bacon being a little chewy, do you cook your bacon before putting on top of the beans or put them on there uncooked?

I decided to make these tonight.

All this baked bean talk got me craving them.

I like to put some fresh garlic in mine. I didn't yesterday because I wanted them to be like mom's.

That recipe calls for mustard powder and I use prepared mustard sometimes. The powder is a good idea.

The molasses and brown sugar work really well, just not for my personal taste. I would add them if I were making them at a restaurant though.

I debated buying some dry mustard, but decided just to use prepared because I would never use the dry other than this one time.
