BigSteve is right,
Last year you guys killed us with kindness before the game and then killed us during the game. We went on finish 10-3 and could have smothered USC if we had played at all like yesterday!
You guys have a great team...we just played one of our best games in the last few years (triple overtime win against Tommy Trojan at Cal) and I enjoyed myself thoroughly on a long hot gorgeous Bay Area night!
Danny Ainge will be a pro quarterback before Nate Longshore and you're tough and well coached.
We keep getting better and better recruits each year...also a little street ball can go a long way to both wins and entertainment (it is California!).
Beat LSU and we'll try to do the same to USC in Nov...see you in New Orleans! Hope you all had fun while you were here.
Go Bears
I get your point but I think the big play threat does a couple of things for you. First, it opens the running game a little if you have a receiver who has to be put in double coverage. Second, it's a simple matter of percentages. If you are dinking and dunking your way down the field and you are not inclined to go for it on fourth down in most situations then you are going to have to complete about 67% (two-thirds) to move the chains. If you have some guys who are legitimate big play threats you can just about cut the completion percentage in half and still have the ability to convert first downs and sustain drives.I have still yet to hear a convincing reason as to why you have to throw long. Give me one good explaination as to why 3, 5-10 yard passes are worse than one 30 yard play. We had 5 or 6 20+ yard plays how big will suit you? So if a team dont have at least a couple 60 yard plays they suck?
Careful bigsteve, and slower with your words, seems some people over here are low on cognitive reasoning scale if you know what I mean.:crazy:I've never seen so many grown men cry like a bunch of little babies. I watched the game on cumberland last night going from party to party and everyone else had exciting points.
so what, we lost the game. cal wanted the game BAD. the only things that game them the win were the fumble return which is gonna happen at a home game anyway. and desean jackson. we don't have a desean jackson. and when i say we don't have a desean jackson i don't mean what he just does when he has the ball, i mean how he spreads the defense out.
their offense has so many weapons and despite our d line playing poorly, our defense was getting it together in the second half.
as for the coaching, there was some calls that didn't make sense to me. i wanted to see o'neal out there earlier.
our running looks sharp. and coker wasn't even there. foster looks really good.
ainge was playing like a vet and is our offensive leader. i'm excited to have him behind center.
our receivers started playing better towards the end of the game.
our team started to play as a team towards the end of the game. yes it sucks that we lost and it does piss me off to. i hate losing. but there's so many things to be happy about. i'm excited about this season i think we're going to do well. cal wanted the game more than we did and they had a whole year to think about revenge. they didn't even really get revenge like they wanted to. we brought the game back within reach several times. it's too bad the offense started clicking late and the defense couldn't handle the infinite skill of their offense.
i'm sorry we lost but we still have a whole season ahead of us. we can still make it to atlanta and after last night's game and knowing the talent they have at cal, i think we can do big things this year.
We lost a hard fought game, a game that we could have won. While our play was not as good as we would have liked it surley was not as bad as some would believe. Our mistakes were few but the ones we made were costly. The lac of back side protection for Ainge resulting in a Cal td one play the fourth and goal at the one for us no td one play, the five yard O line motion call came at a real bad time one play , Lac of punt return coverage on one play and the Cal rushing yards. If you look at the stats it was a even game except those things. I think these things can be fixed at least by the Fla game.

Unfortunate for me? I attend UT. I AM A VOL!I was getting fired up until I read this. Now I understand.
Unfortunately for you, we Tennessee fans refuse to accept the type of defensive performance that we saw last night. No one (except ksusha) is crying, but we are die-hard, orange-bleeding Vols that have waited 8 months to see how far our defense and special teams have come. . . .only to be left wondering if the deficiencies of the last few years have been addressed at all.
That is a valid point. If we accept my dream world and then give Cal the touchdown you mention, Cal still wins by 7. I'm not saying we should have won the game (see my post), but I think that on another day the game might actually have gone another way (even given our abysmal defensive performance). Of course, as Vols4ever mentioned, this is what separates good (mediocre?) teams from great teams. And, unfortunately for the Vols, we don't get another day to play Cal.

Droski was wrong about last year's game and anyone who says Tennessee would beat Cal on another day this year is incorrect. If they played 10 times, the Vols would be fortunate to win twice.Droski had been essentially the same thing about the first game for the past 3 months, and he was being flamed big time.
