Cry about it

We lost a hard fought game, a game that we could have won. While our play was not as good as we would have liked it surley was not as bad as some would believe. Our mistakes were few but the ones we made were costly. The lac of back side protection for Ainge resulting in a Cal td one play the fourth and goal at the one for us no td one play, the five yard O line motion call came at a real bad time one play , Lac of punt return coverage on one play and the Cal rushing yards. If you look at the stats it was a even game except those things. I think these things can be fixed at least by the Fla game.

I disagree, they definitely outplayed us by two touchdowns. Good to play two tough games before Florida so we know what we can do. As long as we come out healthy, I think you will see our Vols give those gators all they can handle and then some!

The way i see it a 15 play drive for a touchdown still counts as 6 points just like a 70 yard 1 play drive. And in my opinion the 15 play drive is 10-1 better than the quick strike. It may not be flashy but it will wear down there D, rest our D and there offense cant score from the bench.

I don't know. IF we take away Cal's 7 points from the Ainge fumble and IF we had scored 7 points on that drive (not completely unlikely), we are even. I think Cal was the better team last night, but even given our horrible defensive performance we were still in the game even into the fourth quarter.

I liked the controlled passing game myself. I thought we might tire out Cal's defense in the second half but it didnt really matter because our D was out of position for most of the game. Chavis always has problems with the Spread Offense, especially when you dont have the Big John Hendersons of the world

of course it wasn't as bad as some would believe and do. I feel those who are writing off the season already, should consider a simple logical truth (in the form of a question): if we looked so good against Cal last year and went on to have a very mediocre season, why is it not possible that the opposite may be true this season?.. especially when you factor in how much better a team Cal was this go-round and that we were in their stadium? Anyway, imo, with the current overall experience on our team, I don't feel 3 losses is a ruined season..1 certainly is not.

I don't care what you all say we were out played! I didn't believe they was that fast but heck the proved me wrong! Are offense didn't look bad but are secondary was horrible horrible horrible.... They really need to improve before the Flordia game or it's gonna end up the same as cal...

you know why our secondary was so bad? because of chavis and his cream puff azz d. if you give any qb, plus a qb with wr that can make plays all day to throw, any secondary will look bad.

yeah, maybe we'll play Michigan in a BCS bowl billed as clash of those who were embarrassed in their opener

For me, prior to the kickoff, I was confused as to why the majority of media and even Lou H. were all picking Cal.

I now understand, there are some weaknesses and youth at this time. Moving forward, I firmly believe that the talent is there, but not yet coached up to the level to be a 9-3 team. This is where Phil will either dig a deeper hole or show us why he makes the big bucks. The next 2 weeks will tell, and will pretty much seal his fate as the old HC.

I am soooo glad that I don't live in K-town any longer, only because I too suffered huge like most of the posters today, and it took a week to recover just in time for Johnnie to give us another mind bender to think about.
GOOOOO Vols, they will come around!

when we first came out and tryed to run, I thought man we are gonna have to pass which we started doing and I thought Ainge looked good and then I dont know what happened. I thought we would come back in the third when we were driving down the field and scoring would have cut the lead to 7 but in true TN fashion we seem not to be able to capitalize when we should, it sucks losing I dont know what TN is gonna do I just hope they can regroup and move on what else can you do.

I've highlighted the key piece for you. That will almost always result in a beating. Bottom line: we got smashmouthed by a soft football team and could not respond in kind.

True I think there might be some personal changes, a team makes the biggest improvement from game on to game # 2. Our wr was a Question mark coming into the game so was the backfield D. The bad surprise was how poor the D line and backers played.

in my own personal oponion i believe its about time for a change in head coach and no im not on the bandwagon. just seems to me over the years that fulmer has had some very very talented teams and what has he done with them??? not a whole lot. cal was a 3rd rate team from a 4th rate conferance and we should have beat them like we did last year but for some odd reason fulmer and the rest of the hasbeen coaches there just cant seem to get the job done anymore and espically when fulmer cant beat florida on a regular basis and cant win bowl games like he shopuld be doing. but i have to hand it to fulmer hes pretty smart donating a million bucks so they wont can him. fulmer must go or tennessee football will wind up being like kentucky or even vanderbilt.

Yes I took note of that in the thread opening exception.

Of course, they fumbled the ball away to us at the 1-yard line on a fumbled snap on a quarterback sneak, but as long as we're ignoring everything that went badly for us, I guess we should just ignore that fact too.

The stats are only close because Cal was too busy putting points on the scoreboard without ever having to take a snap from center.

I think only one was embarrassed this day. Playing at CAL with a loss can't compare with a loss at home being a #5 ranked team playing a division 2 school.

:eek:lol:A few weeks ago we were hearing from the Fulmerites that a team makes the most improvement from the 1st scrimmage to the 2nd scrimmage. Now that we've been exposed in our 1st game, they're changing it to be from Game #1 to Game #2. Classic!:eek:lol:

It was only a surprise to those of you that turned a blind eye toward the fact that our running backs were rushing for 6 yards per carry in the scrimmages.

Dont forgit the drive that died on their 2 yard line.
