The defense didn't show me a lot in the O&W game other than the fact that now we've moved back to the 4-3, we have a couple guys that can get to the QB (Vereen, Lewis, and Jaq Smith).

I thought the OLB spot in the 3-4 was going to help Jaq Smith because of his size. I was wrong. I don't think he understands assignments and responsibilities well enough. The 4-3 will help, I guess.

I know this is off topic from Poona, but any idea when UT is building the new athletic dorms for football players etc..

The rendering looks really nice.

You are wrong. The coaches like him enough to offer him and they are getting paid. Additionally, there is zero good reason to be apprehensive about a future player. That apprehension will turn into doubt as soon as you don't see all-American play just because he doesn't have a specific number of stars. Please just trust our coaches and scouts who actually research and watch these players outside of a two minute google search

If I were recruiting like Dooley, I'd agree but the fact is he's one commit away from having the #1 overall class at the moment & instead of recruiting with the likes of Muti-Directional Texas A&I, we're in on guys whose offer lists reflect the elite of the NCAA.

I'm willing to give CBJ a flyer at this point.

College Football News 2013 Preview - Vanderbilt

Schedule - It’s not bad overall, but the Commodores won’t have much wiggle room for mistakes. ...Georgia comes to Nashville, but three of the next four games are on the road including trips to Texas A&M and Florida before the relatively easy final stretch.

The season will be a success if … Vandy wins nine games again. It’s going to take a huge effort and a few big upsets, but even if the Commodores lose at South Carolina, at Texas A&M and at Florida, going 8-4 before going off to a bowl game isn’t crazy. Beating some of the better teams like Ole Miss, Georgia and Missouri at home is a must, but there can’t be any big mistakes against Tennessee or Wake Forest to have any hope of a ten-win campaign.

That's the College Football News write-up on Vandy. I posted the Missouri one a week ago. I was surprised the writers seemed to consider Mizzou one of the best teams in the East. Seems the Vandy writers think the same thing. As for Vandy, this write-up makes them sound like a rising superpower on the order of Stanford.

I found it funny that Tennessee is relegated to the "easy" part of the schedule and considered on par with Wake Forest.

...I anxiously await the Tennessee preview.

Wow so CFN thinks UT is a "gimme" for Vandy? I like this a lot. Everyone overlooking UT is exactly what we need this fall to get a couple upset wins.

I agree that not having Dooley will help in these matters, but we are far from having superior talent to Vandy than we have in years past. I feel like Butch will widen the talent gap,but Vandy will be good enough to beat us this year given where we are talent wise.

We do have much more talent than Vanderbilt, it's not as close as some think. Also, Butch had no trouble beating a Franklin coached Vandy team with his Cincy roster. Butch has a much better roster now than he had at Cincy so beating Vandy shouldn't be a stretch to predict.

As I said we are no where near as superior in talent to them as we once was.

I think it will all change, as long as butch is able to hold his pants up. ..

But anyone who thinks this game is automatic, at least this year, obviously has not evaluated what we have at each position.

Well, no, it's not automatic. But UT has more talent and a much better coaching staff than the previous few years so that game should be a W for the Vols. But this discussion started because the CFN writer is saying it IS automatic for Vandy to beat UT this year.

If you had to pick an automatic in that game would it be UT or Vandy winning?

Its not a stretch to predict a win, but to chalk it up as an automatic win is crazy

we have way more talent. their best class wasnt as good as our worst class
