Crowder misses practice due to not starting?

It's been posted(fwiw) that Kendrick had some older players go to the coaches on his behalf and convinced them to start him.

Wiseman is only starting until jones gets healthy has also been posted.

Who knows how it all happened but as I have already posted jimmyH is cut off if I am making decisions

I must have missed something. What's wrong with J Jones?

All of this "Player skipped practice for being upset" stuff carries the stench of "North has a season ending injury." Small nugget of truth... exploded into something "newsworthy".

IMHO, it is likely that he is upset if he isn't starting. It is possible that Jones allowed him to take a day to rest and put his thoughts together before getting back to competing. I believe it is next to impossible that any of these guys have successfully bullied Jones. Totally contrary to his personality, patterns of action, and belief system.

This. I WANT the kids to be upset if they get beaten out. I want them to get mad, mean and nasty. But do it by gritting their teeth and tightening their chin straps...not by throwing a tantrum and acting like a punk baby.

Take it like a man...then man up and work like heck to EARN what you want.

CBJ has an interest in keeping younger players happy to keep them at UT. There has been a lot of attrition and it seems like he is trying to stop the bleeding. He promised them playing time when he recruited them, now he needs to deliver. He did not promise Crowder anything because he is a Dooley recruit. Butch hates the Dooley guys. If there is an underclassman who is close to being as good, he will play over an upperclassman. That's what happens when there is a coaching change and that's why so many players leave a program when a coach leaves. New coach wants to play his guys. There is no deference to seniority. Actually, it's the opposite, deference to the younger guys to keep them here. Crowder will not leave and coach knows that. He will have him available all season as a backup if he needs him. Sucks for Crowder.

But isn't that the logical thing to do. If the young guy and the old guy are close, why not play the young guy who will be around next year rather than the redshirt senior will has no more eligibility left.

It makes alot more sense in the long term to go with guys who will be around in 2016 and beyond when we'll be poised to make some serious championship runs.

Yes, there is some logic in it, but it provides a disincentive for guys to stay for their senior year and could cause morale problems for the team as the team leaders are replaced by the upstarts.

Who knows the whole story besides those involved at this point. I'd hope he would not have this attitude.

Randolph, Magitt, Kerbyson, D. Coleman, O'Brian...etc

I haven't seen any bias against Dooley's players if they can contribute. Some just aren't as talented as the new kids

Seems to me like something not really worth reporting. So what if Crowder, or any of the others has a day they get POed at the coaches decisions? It kind of insinuates the player is gutless, or he is a team cancer.

Unlike some on here, I have alot of respect for Jimmy Hyams. However, dropping this little nugget isn't what I would need to know. If they quit, yeah, I want to know that. Not this. Sometime, no news is better than the nit picky stuff.

No one is close to being as good as Maggitt, Randolph or Kerbyson at their positions. if one of Butch's recruits is close, he gets the spot.

I don't think that's the case. I think they are looking at Thomas and seeing his frame as a huge advantage. We've upgraded at RT, LG, and possibly C now. RG is still up in the air because of Robertson shifting over, but I think Jones can handle RG sooner than later.

I think our staff, with DeBord on board, knows we have to get more push upfront, while also protecting Dobbs in the pocket. I don't see this lineup change as a way out if we lose. CBJ knows what's on the table. This is year 3 for CBJ, it's time he proves his worth on the field. I just think DeBord is providing a different way of adjusting the OL. It really can't get much worse, and honestly, I'm pretty encouraged about Kendrick starting and Thomas at C. I think both moves will really help us.

There's a huge difference between tackle and center. Just doesn't make since to have a player take all his reps at tackle during camp, then decide that another player will do better their even though he's been taking all his reps at guard, then moving him to center were he replaces the guy who took all the 1st team reps during camp.

I do understand what you're saying about Thomas possibly giving a better push, but the center position is a brains over brawn position. Solid guard play can make up for lack of strength at the center position. If you can't make the right line calls, nothing can make up for that.

There is a reason if he isn't starting. Usually means somebody out worked him. I don't care if you are a Sr or Fresh. , if you get beat out then go out and get your job back. I don't buy this he is a Sr. and put his time in. If he wants to be a starter then its up to him to go win his spot back.

I call BS on this. There is a lot more involved to this story than is known. No way Mac would respond to being demoted as he has been accused in this entire thread and to idiotically say it is because he is a "Dooley" recruit and is hated by Butch Jones is ludicrous.

I know but we need Saturday to get here. As long as we are before the first Tennessee game the frenzy will be bad.

I'll be watching some football and ignoring the frenzy. But yeah, very excited for Saturday to get here.

A sincere question here...

How many do we have on this thread that have put in 4 to 5 years on major D1 college football program as a player, parent or a coach?

If you're not in the above group try not to classify a player or their character.

Keep it simple and complain to other fans. Keep that part up, your doing fine.

Nothing that I know of. He's listed as Wiesman's backup in game 1.

He didn't participate in the Open Practice. Saw him limping around pretty noticeably. I assume he's got a nicked up wheel. I know he's been held out of some practices to "get healthy", certainly haven't heard any significant injury discussed. Minor stuff IMO and we should see him out there soon.

Lol this OL is awful. Only the freshman and sophomores are worth a crap. Bunch of little cry baby upperclassmen. SMH

Yeah, based on all those games we've seen them in this fall, so far! They haven't been able to make one single block yet! Terrible! :eek:hmy:
