Croom, Pig, McNeil could these

Higher level talent means higher level intensity in practice (competition for position). You don't need to be rocket scientist (ie Dobbs) to see it. This will inevitably will breed more injuries and depth.

It's sports people and not just any sport but one of the toughest contact sports. A well coached team will circle the wagons and pump up the "next man up" who doesn't want to let the team down. Some will shine and some will struggle.

In the end we will earn exactly what our physicality, coaching and mental toughness gets us. As a fan are you ready to ride with whoever steps on the field for the Vols? No reason why these young men can't be something special.

I wonder how NFL teams ever field a team? Really bad theory there Gary.

Sorry, not a theorist just a football fan. NFL 53 man roster vs NCAA 85 scholarship players plus walk-ons are completely different discussions. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. You have more depth to deal with injuries in the college game no excuses. Sometimes opportunity comes at someone else's misfortune. Thanks for the critique though I am really doing some soul searching.

So you are saying his full potential is 20 catches and 300 yards per season?

When did I mention height? I said measurables. That is not just height, but weight, speed, vertical and the other things we measure players by. He has a huge physical advantage over anyone checking him. That should equal more production. He has about 30lbs on Milton and is faster.

So what if North and Pearson didn't have a lot of catches vs UTC? They show up vs the big boys. They didn't need UTC to give them over 25% of their WHOLE season stats. A good wr doesn't get almost half of his production in a full season from the 3 ooc patsies. He got almost 50% of his stats vs UTC, Utah State, and Ark State.

I have no idea what Jason's "potential" is. Just like you, and bunch of other people around here, by the "eye test" he should be All-American and front runner for the Heisman. But, that's the whole point. Nobody on this site really knows squat about what Jason Croom is all about. We've never even held a convo with the young man.

Some players (Jaquez Smith / Milton) look the part and some get overhyped for the part. But we're looking through a keyhole" here. We have no idea what his family life was like. What his hand eye coordination naturally is. What his passion and love for the game are. What his foundational training and outlook on football. Does he have testicular cancer (Lofton) that nobody knows about?

That's what I mean by "potential". Who can measure what the heck that is. Just because the guy is larger than normal and has some athletic attributes does not necessarily translate. We don't really know.

So, the obvious point is don't put our players down when you really don't have a clue. Just because a group of people start convincing themselves that this is true, does NOT make it so. Don't just follow the herd!

The herd says Justin Hunter protected himself from injury to make the NFL, therefore did not give his all his Jr season. Not one of them can provide an ounce of factual evidence outside heresay. Yet, the herd believes it.

Do you remember all the BS posts about Chris Lofton hi senior year and how he had fallen off, lost it, must be hittin' the hippie lettuce, needs the coach to get in his face. It happened game after disappointing game. And the consensus and herd got uglier and uglier as the season went on. Then the news came out about his cancer!

And as far as the UTC comment goes. To say he sucks because a lot of his production came against 1 bad team is illogical. If UTC was so bad, then why did the better receivers have weak games statistically then. Your just making an assumption that JC couldn't hack it against good teams -yet- applying that same logic to VP & MN shows that they couldn't hack it against UTC. And if you say "well they performed in other games", proving their potential, then you just contradicted your measurement of the UTC game at all. And that means you can't judge Croom on that game one way or the other.

The point is ... don't down our players and throw out information to back it up that has no basis in any real knowledge. That's all.

injuries and pigs stupidity cost us a few big games this season like oklahoma, florida, arkansas, georgia and bama?

i am being to think butch is going to deplete the roster to nothing before we get to arkansas.

i worry pig may not make it back at all. croom had his knee scoped so i am guessing he is out for season as well as mcneil.

this team is going from being a contender to being 7-6 or worse again fast due to injuries and stupidity of players.

You are SOOOOOO RIGHT!!! Great post you nailed it!! We are going to suck so bad!! Hey by the way if you have any season tickets you want to dump cheap before this free fall of a season starts I'm your guy. By the way brilliant post!

I think the OP should just stick to posting pics again. Not trying to be the thread police, just expressing my opinion.

look i overreacted a bit. but i care so much and want us to win i can't help but be out there sometimes lol. ask anyone that knows me i am rabid when it comes to the vols. i get negative when we start being horrible because i really care. i want us to be great national champs every year. i just deal with it wrong sometimes. ain't nobody perfect.

It's all good it's just a message board dude, Go Vols!

You forgot to mention that the practice field is too bumpy, it's not aligned properly to keep the sun out of their eyes, and all the high expectations are making them too nervous to get better.

We need to get these things under control.

But otherwise, I agree with you cmpletely.

Maybe comely wenches with cool soothing cloths?

Can you wait until we get horrible THIS YEAR before your freak out? :pinch:

If anybody on here is depending on croom to contribute, you obviously havent watched him the last 2 years. Quickly becoming 1 of the most overrated players in recent Tennessee history.

I bet you were a great athlete, no?

As far as injuries go, McNeil, Jackson, and Gaulden are the only huge losses. Croom is a solid red zone receiver due to his massive size, but as we've seen in the past, often times his hands can be unreliable. We're balls deep at receiver with North, Pearson, Malone, Williams, and Pig when he's off suspension, who isn't going to be a dealbreaking loss for one game over Bowling Green. The secondary is set, yes we're thin and young, but the talent level is out of the roof. The depth is concerning, particularly on the O-line, but we are by no means staring at another 7-6 season with this roster. It's one thing to be a little concerned, but saying that these losses are going to put us back on last season's level, you're out of your mind.
