God help Crompton if he has to learn from Tony Romo. Ultimate under achiever teaching...master? under achiever. Cowboys blow.

Crompton has my best wishes. He came across in 2009 as a dedicated VOL that stuck with UT when most UT fans didn't want him. That kind of commitment carries a lot of weight in my book. Those of you that are skilled QB evaluators may be right - He may never throw a pass in the NFL. Regardless he's still OK with me. I'm glad he was our QB last year.

Just my opinion - pair it with $1 and you can get a cup of coffee - just not at Starbuck's.

I'm with this sentiment. Crompton showed moxie last year. Wish he had shown success earlier in his career but there is blame enough to go around (coaches and WR) on why he may not have. I hope he gets himself a good backup job

So a team has to take a flyer to assume his completion % will go up when he turns pro, no matter how bad his receivers were last year.

Not saying Crompton's anywhere near Matt Ryan's league, but the Falcons had to assume that with Ryan. He had awful WRs his last year at BC and completed less than 60% of his passes I'm pretty sure. Crompton played some tough defenses last year and it's not like a team's looking to draft him as its QB of the future in the 1st 3 rds.

if he gets picked to a team that keeps a consistent Offense then I think his 2nd season he could surprise some ppl by battling for a better spot then 3rd string. no one has seen crompton after some time with a constant offensive strategy.

His NFL QB rating based on last year's stats would have been 90.4 ranking him 13th in the NFL.

If you watched Crompton last year and thought he was a QB with NFL accuracy squeezing balls into small windows b/c his receivers couldn't get separation then you were watching different games than I was.
Must have been then... because once he started clicking with Jones and Moore he was making throws that guys like Clausen lack the physical ability to make.
Both Crompton and the receivers struggled early and picked it up late. If you think the windows he had to throw into last year were small they will only get smaller in the NFL.
True of every QB who comes out this year not just Crompton. That could actually work to JC's advantage though. His windows in college were much smaller than those thrown to by Clausen, Tebow, McCoy, etc. They had WR's who were much better athletes.
So a team has to take a flyer to assume his completion % will go up when he turns pro, no matter how bad his receivers were last year.

A team has to do that just as much for a QB that played with incredible WR's their whole college career also. I really like Tebow as a young man but that is one of the reasons I don't think he will succeed as a pro. He had the advantage most of the time with his WR's vs opposing DB's and still couldn't make a name as a great passer.

Teams took a flyer on Brad Johnson... Tony Romo... Brady, Flacco, Warner, etc. The list of guys who were a "risk" dominates the NFL leader board.

I don't know that JC will make a team much less have a career. I do know that he has the physical and mental talent for it... I also believe few people deserve to have some breaks go their way more than Crompton after what he's dealt with.

Johnson was a career back up at FSU to Heisman winner Charlie Ward. Ward tried and failed to make it in the NBA while Johnson went on to have a long NFL career and win a Super Bowl.

Uh...12 years with a trip to the NBA finals as starting pg is failing? Who knew?

I disagree he showed the ability to work well in an nfl based offense. Keep in mind he had several offensive coordinators.

Inquiring minds what to know?

Did Crompton stink because of all the coaching changes?

Would Crompton have been a great QB if he had Cutcliffe as his OC?

Can he see the whole field or only half the field?

Was he dissing Peyton that one day in the locker room?

Is Crompton the alien love child of Tom Cruise and that girl from Avatar?

Inquiring minds want to know ...

He kicked ass and took names?!?! Are you high? Did you watch any of the games? Especially against UCLA, I was there. Did he not realize we wear white on the road and not at home?
Don't get me wrong, I'll root for him because he did go to UT, but I'm happy he isn't our QB anymore.

You obviously didn't watch the rest of the season.

I didn't say learning from Tony Romo, I said an apprentice period similar to Tony Romo's.

But as for Romo, I don't think he has underachieved at all. College at Eastern Illinois, undrafted in 2003, to a starter for the Cowboys?

I'm a Titans fan for the record.

Plus he didn't have to beat women over the head like Big Ben to get some action.
